Default Wand Fitting

Just as you enter the shop, in between all the chaos that may or may not have been going on, is a rather open area with a measuring tape that seems to be hovering in mid air. It wiggles and flies around, ready to measure the next customer to walk into it's range. The measuring tape will eagerly measure your height, the reach of your arm, and maybe even other strange measurements to help the wandmakers find the best wand for you.

In front of the counter there is the empty space that is designated as the fitting area. Here is where wands are fitted. After being measured by the magical measuring tape, you will be assisted by a worker who will then endeavor to fit you with your perfect wand and start pulling boxes from the shelves, which stretch back impossibly far and up so high that even the tallest people have to tip their head back to see the tops.

Long sliding ladders are attached to every stretch of shelves, and the wandmakers make great use of these to reach those wands which are tucked away high up. There seems to be a filing system of sorts, some kind of method to the madness, though most of the boxes are unmarked. Is it a colour code? Or is it shape? size? smell? Something else? Well you'll never know unless you get a job here. Luckily, and out of sheer necessity, these shelves have been bespelled so that wandboxes are not in danger of flying everywhere due to errant spells cast by children wielding their new wands.

Text Cut: wand fitting instructions

⌦ In order to receive a wand, please take the WAND QUIZ ONCE for the character who is here for a wand. Then, post your character being measured by the "magical measuring tape" ONCE in this thread. This thread is not one where you should interact with others, one post here please! It serves as our queue!

See the example post below, or look at other posts in this thread from previous terms.

Text Cut: example post
Jessica went into Ollivanders with more than her share of nerves, it was time for her first wand! The eleven year old made her way over to the measuring area and waited for her turn. Soon enough the measuring tape reached her and began zipping about, straightening with a snap and measuring out her height and, when she held her arms out, she watched it take a measurement of how long they were too. Fun! Did that mean her wand would be as big as her whole arm?

The girl stepped away from the measuring area and she eagerly waited for the shopkeeper to find her wand.

⌦ Please take the SORTING QUIZ first and wait to be placed in your house before taking the wand quiz! Your house effects your final wand in our quiz! This goes for current members who are re-sorting too, though you may take the quiz in advance if you know what your new house will be.

⌦ You may role play the magical measuring tape, but you may not role play for the shopkeepers. Ollivander does not work here!

⌦ After submitting the wand quiz and posting in this thread, please wait for a shop worker to assist you and your character in finding their perfect wand match. You do not have to RP to get your wand, but it is highly encouraged as a part of enriching your RP experience.

⌦ Please do not stretch the wand fitting experience out too long, it should not take more than three tries at an absolute maximum to find your character's match.

⌦ If we run out of time to complete the RP with you by the end of the RP summer, we will PM or VM your wand result to you, provided you have posted in this thread and responded to our efforts to interact with you.

⌦ If you have any questions, feel free to PM sweetpinkpixie or one of the Diagon Alley Proprietors, and they'll try to answer your questions as quickly and efficiently as they can.

⌦ Have fun!

The bell above the door to Ollivanders gave a soft, almost delicate chime as he pushed it open with his shoulder, already half-turned to snap a photo over it. The camera clicked rapidly in his hands—click, click, click—capturing the narrow shop, the impossibly tall shelves, the dust that seemed to hang in the air like it had been there for centuries.

"Okay, no, this is crazy," he said aloud, voice echoing just a bit too loudly. "There's no way this is real. This is like—this is like a movie set, but it's not—"

Another click. He tilted the lens upward, trying to catch the towering stacks of wand boxes that seemed to go on forever.

He took a few careful steps forward, shoes creaking faintly against the wooden floor, head constantly turning as if he might miss something if he stayed focused on one thing too long. The camera rose again almost instinctively. Click.

"That one's gonna look SO COOL," he muttered to no one in particular, adjusting the dial. "Wait. Do magical places mess with film? Ay, what if it does? What if all my pictures come out blank or, like, haunted or something?"

He froze for half a second because something had just brushed his shoulder. Slowly, Miguel turned. "Uhh..."

A measuring tape—thin, yellowed, and very much moving on its own—was winding its way up his arm.

"¡DIOS MÍO!" he blurted, half-laughing, half-panicking as he instinctively snapped a photo of it mid-motion. "IT'S—IT'S ALIVE!"
Victor had heard the bell, of course, but he was still in the back, sleeves rolled just enough as he polished a pair of wands that had not yet met their match that morning. He took his time with them — he always did — so it was a few moments before he stepped forward. When he finally did, the soft irregular rhythm of clicks reached him first and it drew a chuckle from his chest. He paused in the doorway from the back room, leaning lightly against the frame as he watched the boy try to capture something that was never meant to be held still.

"Tranquilo," he said at last, offered the way one might soothe a skittish creature. His hand lifted with quiet authority and the measuring tape slithered back toward him with only mild reluctance.

"No muerde," he added, a touch drier now but certainly not without its warmth. "Aunque le gustaría que pensaras lo contrario."

Only then did he properly regard boy, his camera, wonder, nerves and all.

"That will entirely depend on whether or not your camera is of magical or non-magical making," Victor continued, slipping easily back into English, though the cadence of his voice hadn't quite caught up yet. "Though in either case, your photographs may develop a little differently than expected."

The measuring tape twitched again at his side, as though eager to resume its work. Victor allowed it a small indulgence, pulling it taut here and there as he noted a few details, before releasing it. It snapped free at once, then undulated briskly through the air as it zipped back toward the boy to take quick measurements of the circumference of his forehead and knees before returning just as neatly to drape itself over Victor's shoulder.

"My assistant is quite thorough,” he remarked, as he turned toward the shelves, fingers brushing lightly along a row of boxes as though listening for something rather than searching. "Do you keep your photographs in a scrapbook or an album," he went on, glancing back over his shoulder, "or are you more inclined toward a bit of organized chaos? Strings along the walls, corners pinned to corkboards..."

Himself falling into the latter category.

Victor returned with a box in hand and slipped the lid off, holding the box steady for him.

"This one, I do believe is ready for its close-up."

Judging by the interactions with the man, Eloy was pretty sure whatever catastrophe may occur {or had occurred since his tenure at the shop} then it all would be expertly taken care of.

But this second wand!

It was pure perfection! {Don’t ask El how he knew, he just did.}

With a thrilled wiggle like an eel {the nickname ‘Eel’ was one his dad gave him, by the way}, he settled his gaze on Victor once more. He hung on to every word, determined to remember each detail about his new bestie. “Ooh, it’s going to keep me on my toes, is it?” Rather than being put off by the notion, Eloy was quite looking forward to the challenge. “I’ll just have to work harder with those counter-curses then… but what fun I’ll have mastering jinxes and so forth easily!” those eyes of his shone brightly. “I’m quite looking forward to it. And all the fun we’ll have together, since it sounds as though we’ll both enjoy humorous situations.”

With another grin, he bowed slightly at the applause. “You have been a big help, and I thank you for that!” Job or not, Victor sure knew how to make a young one feel at ease. “Oh, a holster, please, and… some polish. Have you any holster that complements the physical appearance of this wand?”
Victor watched the boy, a quiet smile settling across his face as he did. There was something deeply satisfying in witnessing that moment of recognition taking hold. He didn't step in too quickly, allowing the boy's excitement to rise and settle in its own way, the energy of it bright and uncontained ― precisely how fittings were meant to be.

"Absolutely," Victor said, not interrupting the boy's excitement but nurturing it. "It will keep you on your toes. I suspect you will do the same for it." A faint glint of something approving passed through his gaze. "The two of you will get along rather well, I think. But, just be certain," he added mildly, "that you learn to undo what you do with equal enthusiasm."

The words were lightly given, but not without meaning. He had seen enough to know how easily enthusiasm could outpace restraint — and how important it was that the two learned to move together, not against one another.

When the boy bowed, Victor inclined his head in return.

"You are quite welcome." Then, back to business "A holster, yes," he said, turning slightly toward the display, already considering. "I recommend wrist ones for first time wand owners to start... and for spruce…I would suggest leather. Something with a bit of give to it. Dark brown or perhaps a muted green."

He moved along the displays.

"Perhaps one of our bundles, bundle numero uno, would suit you best," he went on, pulling the appropriate bottles from the shelf. "That comes with a wand polish and conditioning oil, which you will want to keep the wood smooth and responsive, particularly with a wand like yours that prefers a certain… finesse."

The bottles of oil and polish were essentially identical to one another, but the holsters each had a personality of their own. He gestured towards the display for the boy to pick one that suited.

"While not necessary today, you also should consider a wand strengthening oil as well for yearly end of the school term maintenance."

It was true: she did feel more relaxed. In addition to the happiness and wonder she felt, there was also a surge in her confidence. No, the wand didn’t bring her confidence, it added to it.

SQUEEE!!!

Sai resisted the very strong urge to squeal excitedly. Honing in on the details of her wands that were being told to her helped quite a bit. It warmed her heart that Victor seemed so pleased for her. “Oh.” That was a lot to process, but it was all great things, knowledge that would be treasured for the rest of her life. “Creativity with intention.” These words too were mulled over before a nod was given. “Then I think that me and my new walnut friend here will do wonderful things together.”

Tears threatened to overcome her again at his words of belief in her, as well as the gaze that was received. “Thank you,’’ Sai replied, gratitude evident in both the simple words. “Yes, actually. Polish would be lovely. I do intend to keep this wand in its current healthy form. Also, a holster. Do you have holsters with flower patterns on them?” Sai did love flowers, especially those that looked like an egg. No, not the ovate sort, the ones with white petals and a yellow middle.
"Mmhm," he hummed at her conclusion, a note of quiet approval threading through it. "I believe you will."

At her request, Victor inclined his head slightly and turned toward the display.

"Wand polish will serve you well," he said, selecting a small tin and holding it in his hand for the time being. "Though if not already on hand at home, I would also suggest investing in a some conditioning oil as well. Depending on the sort of holster you prefer, one of our bundles would be a good place to start."

At the mention of flowers, something in his expression shifted — just slightly. Not surprise, exactly, but a quiet consideration as he turned the idea over with care. "Holsters are kept relatively plain," Victor said, glancing toward them, one hand gesturing gently across the display. "But I am certain something suitable may be found."

He paused there, just briefly, his thumb brushing once along the edge of the tin as his thoughts continued a step further ahead. Then, with a subtle shift of posture, he turned back toward her.

"But— we can achieve a similar effect elsewhere," he continued, lifting his free hand slightly to trace patterns in the air. "Walnut takes engraving rather well. Floral motifs — petals, vines, even more intricate designs — can be carved along the handle or length.Done properly, as our engravers ensure, it will not disrupt the wand’s function." He smiled, already mulling over who he might entrust to this task. "Engraving does cost a bit extra, but it is still very affordable."

"There we go," he smiled. His gaze softened as it shifted back to her from her shoes. "You are quite all right. There is very little one can do to anticipate how a wand will respond the first time it is held."

His eyes flicked to the floor and he gave a slight tilt of his head, considering it with a quiet thoughtfulness. before he turned to the shelves and began new deliberations. "If a wand leans too strongly in one elemental direction," Victor explained, selecting another box, his fingers brushing over the edge before lifting it gently. "It is often wise to offer its opposite."

He opened the box, revealing the next wand. It wasn’t about fixing what had gone wrong, but about giving her another opportunity to find what was right.

"Try again," Victor said, softer still, his tone full of quiet confidence. "No apologies required this time."
The water didn't have time to soak through her shoes before mr wandman had made the water vanish with a quick flick of his wand. “I had not thought of that,’’ Eloy responded, tapping his chin thoughtfully. “It’ll be an interesting partnership for sure, with us being that way to each other.” It was not lost on him that he was talking about the wand as though it were human. But wands were not exactly ‘dead weight’ or completely inanimate, were they? At least in his opinion. “Oh, yes.” El grinned sheepishly. “That’s excellent advice, Mister! Definitely would not want to cause permanent harm to myself or anyone else because of something I accidentally did.”

Wrist holsters. Interesting. Naturally this made El a curious El. Again. “Why is that? Do I come back when I’m about to start my second year at Hogwarts for a regular holster?” His head went for a slight tilt as he pondered on which colour to go with. Both were excellent options in his opinion. In the end, El figured that perhaps most go for brown so he went in the opposite direction - “Muted green, please.”

Ah, a bundle! Why did he not think of that before? More products at a reduced cost? It was a bargain! Not that there was need for him to worry about money. “I want the best for my wand so I’ll have that bundle, in addition to the Strengthening oil.” All these products popped another question into his mind. “Does a manual or a guide come with those? I mean… how often would I need to use the Strengthening oil, for example? Is there such a thing as over-polishing? Oh, and that would be all. How much would the cost be?"

SPOILER!!: The man with all the solutions! <3

Saina had forgotten just how much available products there were when it came to wand care. As it should be! Wands deserved to be pampered. She did believe there was Conditioning Oil at home but as she now had a wand of her very own, the girl wanted to have everything so that she wouldn’t be bothering her family members for theirs. “I think a bundle would be wonderful, one inclusive of Conditioning Oil.”

Her chubby face fell when it was revealed that holsters were usually plain. Now that she thought deeply about it, Sai had only ever seen the plain type. But! There was an alternative, one that made her bob her head excitedly. “A little added cost will be of no problem,’’ she remarked with all the certainty of the world. She peeked at her dad, knowing he’d be okay with her decision. “I’d love to have a floral carving done! I do adore all sorts of flowers, but mostly white petaled ones with a yellow center - so those resembling daisies and chamomile.” Aside from their beauty, those sorts of flowers tended to proliferate, adding more to delightfulness to life.

"¡Viva!” Victor cheered. "13½ pliant elder with dragon heartstring from a Peruvian Vipertooth. It is not a wand that tolerates hesitation... nor does it lend itself to being ignored." With a small gesture, Victor gestured towards the area where the soot had vanished. "Elder wands are powerful," he continued, "They expect to be held by someone who can meet them in that. Strength, certainly — but also presence. A kind of certainty in oneself."

Which was a lot to put on someone so young, truly, but what a blessing it was to have a wand that would push you so much.

"Your dragon heartstring core...amplifies all that. It will make your wand one that has the potential to answer quickly, strongly"

Victor settled comfortably on his heels, hands clasped loosely behind his back, and his gaze softened as he smiled down at the boy.

"Will that be all for today?" he asked. "Or are there any accessories or holsters you'd also like to purchase?"

[13½ pliant elder with dragon heartstring (Peruvian Vipertooth)]

Was that all? "Wow, that sounds so cool!" Getting a dragon one reminded Tyler about the stories of his dad's work life and the one time he was with a team of people at the sight with dragons. "I'm very happy, sir. Erm, I suppose just the usual holster and case always comes with it right? Cause I think that's all I really need." Well, once Tiana gets her wand. Because he wasn't leaving without his sister.

"I do have a question, with this wand being so big, it's one I grow into right? Does the wand grow with me physically? Like what if I become so tall the wand looks small in my hand?" Maybe it was a bit exaggerated, but Tyler didn't want his life wand to eventually feel like a toothpick.

His head turned momentarily to see Tiana produce red roses out of their wand. "That's so pretty! I bet mum would love some of those."

Victor watched with a soft smile, hands clasped behind his back, though something in his posture had gone still. He felt it the moment the magic took — warmth rising through the girl's hand into the wand — and his dark chocolate eyes lit with quiet delight. When the roses burst forth, rich and red, curling and climbing into a living bush at her feet, a quiet breath left him. For just a flicker of a second, something more tender crossed his face... an echo of another garden, another pair of hands, pink roses laughing in the sun. "Ah… claro," he murmured warmly and something almost wistful.
That was the difference. "I thought the two of you might get on rather well."

His gaze lingered on the rosebush a moment longer before returning to her, something quietly satisfied settling into his expression.

"And you may continue to call me Mr. Wandman, if you like," he added, the faintest curl of amusement at the corner of his mouth. "Though Victor will also suffice."

He stepped closer, not to reclaim the wand, but to reach toward one of the blooms themselves. His fingers steadied one of the roses, brushing over the petals with a gentleness recalling another bouquet of roses entirely, lighter in hue, softer in sentiment that currently sat in a vase on the counter.

"Alder," he continued, voice easing back into its quiet cadence. "11¾ springy alder with clabbert horn. A wand that chooses kind hands.” His eyes lifted back to the girl. "Alder favors those who are considerate, steady, and quietly capable. It is particularly well suited to protective magic… and to those who look after others, even when they are unsure of themselves." He paused a moment, his hand retreating to his pocket. "And this core Clabbert horn is rather rare. It has a natural affinity for growth. Plants, certainly…" He gestured towards the rosebush. "...but also in magic that nurtures, restores, and protects."

Victor straightened then, folding his hands lightly before him once more.

"Your wand will, of course, come with the standard cardboard box," he nodded, "and you may choose a holster — wrist, ankle, or hip, whichever suits your habits best." His gaze softened just a fraction. "Will you be needing anything further today? Polish, perhaps… or something to ensure its proper care?"

"Wrist holsters are… practical," he explained, turning back towards the display and selecting a muted green leather holster. "At your age, they allow for easier access while keeping the wand secure. Less to think about while you are still learning control. Wrist holsters are regular holsters, just like waist and ankle ones. Though, you are of course welcome to come back for a different sort should you find your preference change in time. Only experience informs such choices, after all."

The rest of the boy's selections were gathered quickly, each placed neatly beside the others in a paper bag.

"The instructions are provided on the backs of the bottles," Victor nodded, tapping one of the bottles lightly before slipping it inside. "Clear enough to follow, I should think." And, hopefully, the boy's guardians would have enough experience with suc things to answer any questions he may have ― though he was always available via owl for such things as well. "Strengthening oil is not something you will require often — once at the end of each school term ought to suffice."

Victor finished making sure everything was arranged neatly within the bag before glancing back up at the boy again, the faintest hint of amusement returning to his voice.

"And yes — there is such a thing as over-polishing. Moderation will serve you better than enthusiasm in that regard. If your wand should start slipping out of your hand while wielding it, you have certainly go beyond the threshold of reasonable polishing practices."

He then straightened, hands settling lightly against the counter.

"The total," Victor said, "for your wand, holster, Bundle One, and strengthening oil…" A brief beat while he double checked his tallies. "…will come to 21 galleons even."

Victor inclined his head as she spoke, listening not only to the request itself, but to the careful way she chose it and the meaning tucked just beneath the words. There was always a reason, with children. Sometimes they knew it, sometimes they didn't, but always paired with pure wonder.

He turned then and began assembling the pieces of her bundle.

"Daisies," he repeated, more to himself than to her. "White petals… yellow center." His gaze dropped to the walnut wand resting in its box, studying it and considering not whether it could be done, but how it ought to be done.

"That will suit it," he nodded with the hint of a grin.

"Since engraving is a specialty service," he continued. "It will require approximately an hour to complete." His mouth curved faintly, not quite a smile, but near enough. "You need not wait here unless you wish to," he added. "There are vendors just along the way, as well as the butterbeer cart, that may be preferable ways of passing the time."

For a fleeting second, the thought seemed to linger with him — sunlight, sweetness, a child ― his daughter ― with something cool in her hands and nothing to worry over but the foam at the rim.

"You may pay now or when the engraving is complete," he said, easing back into the rhythm of the transaction without losing that warmth entirely. "For your wand, the bundle, and the engraving… the total comes to eighteen galleons."

Victor listened without interruption, the boy's enthusiasm spilling out in uneven edges—questions folding into observations, practicalities chasing wonder, thoughts beginning to proliferate the moment they were given space, branching faster than they could be neatly organized. It was a familiar rhythm... wonderful in its own unpolished way, and one that made the work feel worthwhile, every scorch mark and careful repair included.

A faint warmth settled into Victor’s expression as he took it in.

"Mm," he hummed softly in acknowledgment, setting a well-fitted case alongside the wand with careful alignment. "Yes. A wrist, waist, or ankle holster and cardboard are provided as standard. A wand, after all, is not meant to be carried carelessly. But perhaps your preference of holster or box is of a different taste ― I try not to assume."

Especially with three holster options.

At the question, however, Victor’s attention shifted more fully. He glanced up, studying the for a moment. "A fair concern," he nodded, reaching for the wand ― not to take it away, but to balance it lightly across his palm as though illustrating a point. "A wand does not grow in the physical sense," he explained. "Its length remains as it was crafted. However…the relationship between wizard and wand is not so rigid. As you grow — physically, magically, and otherwise — the wand adjusts in subtler ways. Balance and responsiveness, for example. It will not become lesser in your hand simply because you have become more. It meets you where you are… and where you are going."

He gathered what items he could for the time being and returned his attention to the boy.

"For your wand," he began, "…the cost comes to ten galleons."

"It's nice to meet you Mr Victor, I'm Tiana." She introduced herself with a soft smile. She had manners after all. Momentarily she turned to Tyler to and nodded smile widening. "Yes, mum would love it if we gave her flowers." Turning back, she watched as Mr Victor touched one of the roses gently with his fingers, and she asked thoughtfully. "Do you want to keep the rosebush Mr Victor? If I can just get a handful of roses to give to my mum then you can have the rest." It did seem like Mr wandman was also a man with an affinity for flowers, and not just wands.

When Victor began telling her about her wand Tiana stilled and attentively listened, and took in the words. Almost immediatly though she interrupted him with a question. "What's a clabbert? Is that like a big toad monkey?" To hear that the wand chose someone who is kind, considerate, quitley capable, protective magic, and likes plants. It seemed to see her it felt like, scary.

"Thank you for the wand. Can I please get a wrist holster, and some wand polish?" Anything else she could buy at a later time when she had learned to use her new wand a bit, and felt accustomed to it.

Shave a couple seconds off retrieving it from a waist holster… time that could be well spent practising spells.” El liked where this recrudesce train of thoughts were heading. “You may be seeing me again, and I may be bringing more questions with me.” Because really, all this wand stuff was rather interesting.

There was a visible look of relief that washed over El’s body. “Great! That will be enough, I think.” His comprehension skills were not always excellent but quite enough to get him by. In any case, there were more than enough people in his life that help could be sought from. While Victor gathered everything in a bag, El’s gaze shifted to the tape. Where could he get one of those? However, upon hearing the tiny amount of amusement in Victor’s voice, he chuckled. It was nice that he could be someone who didn’t stress others. “Strengthening Oil once at the end of each school term, keep an eye out for the wand slipping from my hand.” Eloy brought the tips of his index fingers to his temples. “Stashing this information away for future use.”

All too soon, his time with this transaction was done. El counted out the galleons and handed them over. “Thanks for all your help, Mister! And for sharing your wealth of knowledge!” The bag was collected. “You and that tape have a good rest of the day.” With that, he turned away to depart.

Miguel let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding as the measuring tape slithered away, his hand still hovering midair like he wasn't entirely convinced it wouldn't come back for round two.

"Okay, okay, cool, yeah, totally normal," he said, voice a little too fast. The camera was already back up in his hands. Click. He caught the tape just as it draped itself over the man's shoulder, then lowered the lens, shaking his head in disbelief.

"Your assistant is intenso," he added, half-laughing. "Like, I thought my abuela with a sewing kit was scary, but that—" He gestured vaguely in the air where the tape had been. "That's next level, señor."

His attention snapped immediately to the wand box the moment Victor revealed it, the rest of the shop momentarily falling away. Miguel stepped closer, slower this time, like he'd finally realized that maybe this part required a little more care than frantic photo-taking.

Still, the camera came up again almost instinctively. Click.

"Sorry, I—this is just—" he lowered it, exhaling, eyes flicking between the wand and the man. "Like, if I don't take pictures, I'm gonna think I made it all up later."

At the question, he huffed a soft laugh, shifting his grip on the camera strap.

"Uh, bit of both, I guess?" he said. "Albums when I'm trying to look like I have everything together. Strings and corkboards when I don't." A beat. "So... mostly strings and corkboards."

His gaze drifted back to the wand, lingering now, something quieter threading through the excitement. There was still wonder there, but it had settled into something more focused, like a burgeoning awareness that this moment mattered in a way he couldn't fully explain yet.

"You said it's ready? How do you know it's ... that it's for me?" he asked as he reached out, pausing just short of the box, glancing up for a split second as if asking permission without quite saying it. "Lo siento. Pero what do I do? First time anywhere like this."

"Thank you for the wand. Can I please get a wrist holster, and some wand polish?" Anything else she could buy at a later time when she had learned to use her new wand a bit, and felt accustomed to it.
Victor inclined his head at her introduction, a small, practiced courtesy that carried the quiet weight of old classrooms and long years spent coaxing nervous students into confidence."A pleasure, Tiana."

He smiled gently at the way she offered the roses so readily, without hesitation or attachment to the whole. "That is kind of you," he praised, his smile warming further. "You may take what you wish for your mother. The rest…" he paused for a breath, gaze drifting briefly to the blooms as if measuring their borrowed life, "…may remain. The shop does not often object to a bit of life while it lasts."

She was, after all, a young witch and long-term conjurations something that would come with more practice and fortifying her bond with her wand. Though he suspected they would remain for at least the rest of the afternoon.

"That is quite the precise guess for someone not sure what a clabbert is," Victor said, one brow lifting just slightly, the hint of a smile threading through the beginnings of his beard.. "A clabbert is a small magical creature that resembles something that is part monkey, part amphibian." Victor tilted his head then, weighing how much information to give. "Though I suspect you will learn about them in much greater detail once you have your school textbooks in hand and are at school. I would not want to steal that first sense of discovery from you or your professor."

He glance at her wand. "The creature's horn, however, lends itself well to protective magic," he added, voice easing into something a shade more instructive. "A trait drawn from the creature's pustules, which would glow as a warning. A natural safeguard, you see. Magic often remembers where it comes from."

At her request, Victor nodded and gestures towards the display with an open hand. "Wrist, ankle, or waist holsters are included in your fitting for no additional charge," he explained as he reached for a bottle of polish. "That will come to 13 galleons and eight sickles."

"I rather expect I will," he said, the corner of his mouth hinting at something warmer than amusement at the promise of more questions. "And may be disappointed if you didn't."

The bag was prepared with the same care as everything else — wand secured in its box, oils and polish arranged neatly, the holster folded without a single crease. The coins were then accepted with an easy smile and tucked away into the till without much flourish save for the ding and click of the machine opening and closing.

"Have a good rest of your day," smiled. "And do try to keep one another out of trouble... or at the very least… learn something useful from it when you don't."

Victor accepted the coins with a quiet nod, his fingers closing around them without counting—not there, not in front of her. Trust, even in small gestures, had a way of shaping how people carried themselves. He would confirm the total later while adding them to the till.

"It will be ready when you return," he said, already setting her wand aside with a care. "When you return, the carving will be set. Give it a day before polishing—let the wood settle into the work. It will hold better, that way."

He inclined his head slightly. "I will see you shortly."

And as she left — bright and carrying that restless energy he knew well — Victor remained where he was only a moment longer before turning back to the wand. His hand hovered just above it, not yet touching, as his gaze traced along the grain. He was already considering the work ahead: where each petal might rest, how the curve of each carved bloom would follow the natural lines of the wood rather than fight them.

Time to get this to one of his engravers!

"Overzealous," he said dryly, plucking it neatly from his shoulder and giving it a small, corrective flick before it stilled properly. "Even on its worst days." He exhaled faintly through his nose and chuckled under is breath. "Bueno. At least it is dependable. I have yet to meet a witch or wizard who measures more accurately."

His gaze shifted back to the boy, catching the lingering tension in his posture, the too-quick cadence of his voice, and Victor's eyes warmed.

"The camera is no trouble," Victor added, with a small tilt of his head. "If this is how you keep hold of memories without them slipping away, then you should." A majority of his own life experience were through the lens of a camera, so he understood the appeal quite intimately. "Es un estilo, ¿no? A way of seeing without the need to make things too tidy."

When his attention settled — truly settled — on the wand, Victor’s own posture shifted in response into something a hint more paternal as he noted the hesitation, the glance upward, and the unspoken questions behind the boy's eyes.

"You... will see," he nodded, lips curling into something much closer to grin than a smile. "It is not something I can hand you in words." He inclined his head once, granting permission without making ceremony of it. "Go on and pick it up. There is no need for anything elaborate ― a little flick, a turn of the wrist will do plenty. Sometimes the smallest movement is more than enough."

He stepped back half a pace, giving the boy the space to get acquainted with wand número uno. Would be nice if it was wand número para siempre.

Tyler took a moment to process what the Wandmaker said. So it wouldn't physically grow with him, but in other ways, to fit the mold. Least that was how he took it. Nodding, "I see. Okay, I guess that makes sense. And if it somehow did have a problem down the line I could always come back and get it fixed or a new one." Smiles here.

Hearing the price he gasped. "Wait, it costs money?!" Before laughing, "I'm just kidding, there's no way your shop would survive without the fees." Digging into his pocket he counted ten galleons out onto the counter to pay for it. "Actually, could I get the same type of extras my sis asked for with my wand? Just so me and my sis are getting the same items other than my wand." Not that his parents would mind, but they would question why he spent less money than Tiana. "So here's the extra galleons and sickles." Counting out 3 more galleons and 8 sickles to total the same 13 galleons and eight sickles onto the counter. Twinsies for life!

Saina had noted, with a hint of confusion, that the coins were not counted. Obviously not knowing the true reason, she chalked it up to Victor having seen her count them out and was satisfied. But talk returned to her soon-to-be-carved wand, leaving all other thoughts up in the air. “Noted!” the girl replied, eager as ever to lay eyes on the completed wand. Could one hour elapse already?

It did actually, though it all felt like an eternity to her.

Full of ice cream and butterbeer, which likely meant that Sai would be bouncing off the walls later thanks to a sugar rush, she returned to the shop. Excitement and anticipation in the undulate levels that she was feeling surely would not help.

Sai stepped up to the counter, her eyes searching for the familiar form of the nice shopkeeper.

Bisan Helena had likely talked her tutor's ear off when it came to all her queries on wandlore, the wand fitting process, and the best kinds of wood and core pairings possible. She would like to have only the best one available to her. Suppose, if her first wand wasn't that nice, she could always get a second some other time. But you only experience your first wand fitting once in a lifetime, and she needed the moment to count.

As she entered the shop, the eleven-year-old found herself wanting to go straight for the wand displays and looking through each of them. Perhaps admiring the craftsmanship, perhaps testing which wand looked the prettiest. Although Bisan aimed to be as behaved and as sophisticated as she can be, there was always the innate childish urge to grab a couple and play with them. Hold as many as she could with one hand and wave all of them at the same time. Or use them as drumsticks. Or build a stick tent thing.

It will stay an urge. Tempting, but no.

And how many more measurements did the tape need? Bisan had been briefed about the procedure prior to this, of course. She just did not want to make it known to everyone that all the measuring was tickling her a bit.

"Sí," he said, a quiet warmth settling into his smile. "You may return — and I would encourage it — should you ever need repairs, restorations, or simply guidance. Owls also know their way here, should the need arise." A small pause followed, softer than before, his gaze steady but kind as it rested on the boy's face. "Though… it is best to give both yourself and the wand time to understand one another before assuming any fault."

There was little room for him to answer the boy's humor about cost, though the faintest hint of amusement touched the corner of his mouth. He accepted the coins without ceremony, counting them with practiced fingers before setting them aside in a tidy stack.

When the boy spoke again — requesting additions and offering his reasoning — Victor's eyes shifted, just briefly, toward where the sister stood. Something softer passed through his expression before his attention returned.

"Of course," he said with an affirming nod.

He turned and moved through the shop, selecting what was needed and placing them beside the wand box with the same thoughtful precision he had shown before, aligning them as though the arrangement itself carried meaning.

"13 galleons and 8 sickles," he confirmed, lifting the bag and offering it forward. "Take care of it," Victor added, his voice gentler now, touched with something almost paternal. "Power may come easily to a wand such as yours… but control is something you grow into. Give yourself that time."

Dios mío.

There were always a handful, each summer — the ones who carried a little extra something beyond the usual spark of children stepping through the Ollivanders door for the first time. The sort of energy that felt as though it might spill over… or burn too brightly... if given the slightest push.

His attention lingered on her a fraction longer than usual, not out of suspicion, but like a teacher watching a student he already knew might need a steadier hand.

He waited... but the moment never came.

The measuring tape slipped back into his hand in a loose coil and Victor gathered it absently, smoothing it once between his fingers before letting it rest. His shoulders eased slightly as his focus returned to the girl.

"Good day," he greeted, his smile easy. "I'll be back in just a moment."

As he passed, his fingers brushed lightly along the shelves and paused where he expected the box to be, only to find the space empty. A faint crease formed between his brows.

"…hm."

For a moment, he simply stood there, hands settling at his hip as his gaze moved across the rows and exhaled softly, the sound touched with wry amusement.

"Rearranging themselves again, are we…" he murmured under his breath.

At last, he spotted it... just out of reach. With a small shake of his head, he stepped onto a nearby ladder, climbing about halfway up. The wood gave a soft creak under his weight as he reached and drew the box free. When he returned to her, the box rested easily in his hand.

"For your consideration," Victor smiled, his voice warm again as he opened it, angling it gently toward her. "Go on," he added, his free hand lifting in a small encouraging gesture. "Pick it up and give it a little flourish."

Miguel let out a short, breathy laugh as Victor flicked the measuring tape into submission, his shoulders finally dropping an inch.

"Overzealous," he repeated as if he knew what the word meant, now eyeing the tape like it might suddenly recrudesce. "I swear it sized up my whole future in like three seconds. Mucho respeto, but it's also terrifying."

At the man's reassurance about the camera, Miguel's expression softened, something more genuine settling in beneath the excitement.

"Sí, señor," he nodded, glancing down at it briefly. "Exactly that. If I don't catch it, it feels like it slips, you know? Like it'll just—" he made a small motion with his fingers, mimicking something dissolving into air, "—disappear." A grin then tugged at his mouth. "Organized chaos is kind of my brand. Strings, tape, random angles, whatever works. Makes it feel more ... real."

At the words you will see, Miguel's brows lifted, a nervous sort of excitement creeping back in. "Okay, hombre misterioso," he muttered, though there was no bite to it, only curiosity.

When given the go-ahead, Miguel inhaled sharply, like he was about to step onto a stage he hadn't rehearsed for.

"Alright, here goes nothing."

He lifted the wand from the box, fingers adjusting around it as if searching for the right placement—and then finding it without quite knowing how. He stilled.

His grip settled, shoulders aligning without thought, and for a moment he just stood there, blinking, as if something inside him had clicked into place. He gave the wand a small, tentative flick and...

Nada. No pasó nada.

"Is ... is something supposed to happen?" Was the stick broken? Was it him? Was he not really a wizard?!

"Is ... is something supposed to happen?" Was the stick broken? Was it him? Was he not really a wizard?!
Victor chuckled softly, almost more breath than actual sound. "It does have a tendency to… get ahead of itself." His gaze flicked briefly to the measuring tape that had gone slack across the counter, before returning to the boy. "Though I assure you that it measures potential, not fate. The future remains yours to place, and misplace, as you see fit."

Victor understood and deeply related to the organization practices ― he was the man, after all, who threw darts at a map to decide his next travel destination and picked arbitrary dates for his birthday each year.

"Entiendo," he nodded, adjusting the cuff of his sleeve. "Though, I do feel obligated to encourage you not to live your entire life behind the lens and allow yourself to experience a few moments unrecorded as well."

He stepped back then, giving the boy the space to try, one hand resting lightly against the edge of the counter, the other loosely folded at his side. The new nickname earned the ghost of a chuckle as well ― he must make a shirt with that phrase on it.

And then Victor watched...absolutely nothing happen.

Victor exhaled softly through his nose and dragged a hand back through his peppered hair. He stepped forward again, attention sharpening not just on the wand, but on the boy's stance from the set of his shoulders to the panic rising behind the eyes.

"Not always," he said calmly. "No response is still a result." Victor gingerly took the wand back, turning it once between his fingers out of habit before setting it back into its box. "No visible change... no warmth, no pull, no resistance. That tells us quite clearly that it is not a match."

He set the box aside and moved again to an entirely different area of the shop from before. His hand hovered briefly over one section of shelves before shifting to another, selecting a different box and then pivoting back to the boy. Returning, he opened the box and angled it toward him.

"Give this one a try."

Tiana gave her new wand a quick glance on the counter before bending down to pick a handful or really 8 eight roses to be exact from off the blooming rosebush at her feet. Straightening she placed them on the counter next to her wand. "You're welcome Mr Victor! I think every shop or home needs some life, and colour." Tiana had no idea how long conjured roses lasted though, would they just dissapear into thin air eventually?

Her Clabbert guess was almost spot on, and that got an a sunny smile to form on her lips as she took the info in as Mr Victor spoke. "Wait, will I glow too if I end up in a risky spot then?" A natural safeguard did though sound useful since she was very protective of her twin, and friends.

Turning to the display Tiana walked over, and grabbed the wristholster before returning to the counter. Counting up the correct amount of galleons, and sickles on to the counter as payment for her wand, polish and holster. She had overheard earlier that Ty of course had bought the same things. Twins for life!

Victor's gaze lingered on the roses, their color striking against the worn grain of the wood that made up Ollivanders. His fingers came to rest lightly on the counter's edge, thumb brushing once along a shallow groove as if tracing an old memory.

"A fair and wise observation," he said at last with a smile. "Quien tiene un jardín, tiene un tesoro." His eyes shifted back to her, a faint softness settling in. "One who keeps a garden keeps a treasure."

The corner of his mouth lifted before he let the thought pass, his arms folding across his chest as he suppressed a chuckle.

"Unfortunately," Victor continued, drawing in a small breath as he straightened, "that particular trait belongs to the creature itself… not the wand's wielder and is, regrettably, non-transferable."

As she returned with the holster, his attention followed and he shifted his position to behind the counter for ease of transaction. He accepted the coins with a slight incline of his head, counting them with before setting them into the till and closing it with a pleasant little DING.

He gathered her wand and its accompanying items, aligning them neatly, fingertips adjusting their placement by fractions until they sat just so within the bag. Only then did he slide them toward her across the counter.

"All set," he smiled. "Take care of eachother."

The moment the tape flew to to the wandmaker, Bisan let out the breath she'd be holding in the last seconds of the measuring process and casually rubbed the back of her elbow with her other hand. It was to relieve herself from the tickly sensation from earlier, and a secret means to calm herself. She'd read that tickles triggered some kind of defense mechanism in people, as if they were in danger. There was absolutely nothing dangerous here. So. She can't be ticklish. It's just tape.

"Good afternoon, sir," Bisan offered the man soft (almost practiced) smile. "Yeah, okay." She would have said he could take all the time he needed - perhaps finding her the perfect wand would need more looking through the displays, right? - but that would be a lie. A girl can get impatient, especially when she wanted to grab an ice cream cone after this.

She kept her eyes on the wandmaker as he moved. Except for half the second she spent side-eyeing a different pile of wands to the other side. Rejected wands? What if her wand was on the stack instead? But the soft creaking from the ladder as the man stepped back down had her attention again, and Bisan's eyes fell onto the box fast.

While she remained steady where she stood, anyone who looked closely would see the subtle way her eyes lit up. But she's trying not to be obvious, duh. Can't look too excited.

"It is pretty." Bisan commented about the wand being offered to her, and she flexed her fingers slightly on her side before she lifted her hand to pick the wand up as instructed. She wasn't sure if the gentle tingling on her fingers upon holding the wand meant something good, but it certainly wasn't a sign of rejection. And what did a flourish mean? See, Bisan had thought about what she wanted her wand waving gesture to be. A swish and flick? Boring. A jab? Hazardous.

Bisan gave the wand a brief close-up look before pointing it downwards, eight o'clock, and then made a big semi-circle in the air, drawing a rainbow over herself. Could wands read minds? Because it was as if the wand knew she wanted to create a rainbow. And oh what a shimmery rainbow that was!

Pretty. Pretty, pretty. She tried her very best not to seem properly impressed by the spell work she'd just managed there and then. All on her own. "Do you like rainbows, sir?" Bisan finally tilted her head up at him again with a look that meant that there was only one correct answer to her question.

Maybe the tickling was worth it. That's a joke, but it is the sentiment that mattered.

Maybe the tickling was worth it. That's a joke, but it is the sentiment that mattered.
Victor's smile came slow and wide... though not for the rainbow itself — the arc noteably had held remarkably well for a first casting — but for the way she had moved in a decisive cast that told him more than the magic ever could.

"Mmhmm."

The sound was low, thoughtful. He shifted his weight onto one leg, one arm folded loose across his middle while the other rose, fingertips dragging lightly along the line of his jaw, thumb catching at the edge of his scruff masquerading as a beard. His gaze lingered not on her, but on the fading spectrum still suspended between them. The colors thinned, softened, then began to dissolve.

"I've always found them beautiful," he nodded. "Where I grew up, we say a rainbow isn't just light, it's a promise that the storm remembered how to end."

His eyes tracked the last glimmer until it slipped away. Only then did he look back at her.

"You've no need to hide your satisfaction," he chuckled. “That was well done."

He stepped forward and closed the space between them and as he came to a stop, he exhaled softly through his nose while something quiet settled in the line of his shoulders. His hands slipped behind his back, fingers lacing loosely together.

"12½ inch supple cedar with fwooper feather." His gaze dipped to the wand still in her hand, as though acknowledging it as an active participant in the conversation. "It is a very perceptive wand. Cedar doesn't take well to being misled… and it's not especially forgiving when the one it's chosen is wronged. It prefers those who notice things and the ones who listen first, speak second...but know when it is the time for action."

He shifted again, chuckling internally at how vague and almost contradictory that sounded. There was sound logic in there, he promised.

"The core…" he went on, one shoulder angling slightly as his head tipped the other way, "gets a poor reputation from people who mistake sensitivity for instability." A faint breath of amusement ghosted through his slightly parted lips. "Fwooper feather isn't erratic. It's particular and favors magic that lives in the mind along with charms that influence, restore, unsettle, and uplift."

His eyes flicked, briefly, to where the rainbow had been and his posture eased another fraction.

"A wand that rewards thought," he summarized, "and a bit of imagination in how you approach things. You and it…" His mouth curved into a more obvious grin. "You'll understand each other well. So long as you stay honest in your workings. It doesn't care much for pretense."

He took a moment to allow all the information to breathe before shifting gears.

"The wand comes to 12 sickles," he added, one hand finally slipping free from behind his back. "And you can choose a wrist, ankle, or waist holster, along with the standard box." He tilted his head towards the display for her to pick her favorite. "Will that be all for today… or shall we find you something for its care as well?"

Talking Devad Dreamer, Ciara Patterson, Baek Ji-Ho
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ Claimed by Bits ❤️ ~ Queen of Typos ❄ Magical Mosh Pit ❄

Devad swallowed the urge to manoeuvre his fingers in mid air as though he were playing a cello. Because… that’s right! He was here to get a wand, not get his very own cello. If it had been the latter, he certainly would have been far more excited; perhaps even bouncing at his dad’s side as a few other wand newbies seemed to be doing. Little did the guy know what was in store for him in the very, very near future thanks to the generosity of said awesome dad. “Does it generally take many tries to get the right wand? Did you or Diallo take a long time?” Maybe Dev would get lucky by finding his match on the first try.

Now paying more attention to what was happening around him, Dev noted that the other children were taking turns to be measured by the measuring tape. Perhaps it was their excitement that was contagious but he felt his own step a notch up. Just think! His very own wand! “Okay, here I go!” After grinning at his dad, Dev marched up to the now-free measuring tape. “Show me what ya got!”

Immediately the tape began swooping around here and there. Devad stood there, in a whole lot of awkwardness and with his hands held loosely at his side. The tape spanned his narrow shoulders, his wrists and even the circumferences of his ankles. “Um. What even is the point of measuring my ankles?” he mused quietly. Not that the tape could answer, obviously. But hey! Now he could move onto the next step, right? Since the tape seemed to be done with its job.

“Can you make me a cup of hot chocolate when we get back home, daddy? Please?” Ciara asked brightly as she pushed a few strands of her reddish-brown hair out of her freckly face. Point to note: this young lady only drank hot chocolate made by the impressive man at her side. “And maybe we can have a few strawberry wafers?” It was quite obvious she possessed a sweet tooth.

Anyway.

CeeCee was highly motivated to get home, yes, but she wanted to savour the moments that would lead to her securing a wand of her own. She could not resist fidgeting in anticipation as she awaited her turn with the tape. When it was free again, the girl jogged over. Yep. THAT was how eager she was!

The thing was, Ciara did not know whether to feel silly or amused as the tape flitted around. Was it necessary to measure the length of her hair? The individual length of her fingers, maybe. Definitely not the width of her chin though. Cee allowed the tape to do its work without complaint, which did not last much longer.

Little Baek Ji-Ho was certainly feeling the air of eagerness as he headed into Ollivander’s with his mother, Sooki. He felt light on his feet, so perhaps this was why he seemingly flew through the door and into the shop. He paused briefly to say a few words to his mum then hurried over to await his turn with that peculiar measuring tape. There were times when he clamped a hand over his mouth to stifle a giggle because the tape measured the oddest of places sometimes.

Then came his turn!

Baek’s eyes followed it as best as they could, grinning all the while so that his face actually hurt a bit. He wondered, if the tape could have human feelings, would love and enjoy its job. The boy supposed he’d never know that answer, but that was okay. Now he’d just focus on heading over to try wands.

It’s been quite the whirlwind of a week for little miss Xelene Baltazar-Dos Santos. From her big sister, Serena, landing on the front pages of gossip magazines to the mooncalves escaping their pen and having to chase them down. To say her nervous system was a mess would be an understatement.

What made today ten times better, and would hopefully brighten up the rest of her summer, was coming to Ollivanders for her very first wand. Tucking stray dark curls behind her ear, she tugged her big sister’s hand into the shop, her parents following close behind them, along with her cousin and his parents.

“I hope a pretty wand chooses me,” she said softly as her big sister let her hand go and gently directed her towards the measuring area. “Do you think a pretty wand will choose me?” her big silver grey eyes looked up at Serena, who responded with a soft smile and a shrug.

Right. No one knew what wand would bond with her. That’s why this was such a big deal. Closing her eyes, she let the measuring tools do their job.

It was finally time. He was finally going to become a legit wizard. Years after years of watching his dad and sister wield magic around like it was nothing, Angel Escalante was going to get his chance. Of course, he wouldn’t be able to cast magic outside of school just yet, but he’d have a wand!

Making his way into the shop behind Xelene’s family, Angel wriggled away as his dad ruffled his hair. He was eager to get measured and select a wand. Hopefully it was powerful so it’d help him succeed. Having been raised as close to a muggle as his mom desired, Angel felt a little left out when it came to magical kids his age. He didn’t have the same advantage they did.

It didn’t matter. He’d read all the books and work hard to catch up and become a full fledged wizard.

His mom caught his arm, combed his hair with her fingers and straightened his shirt as she whispered that first impressions were important, then sent him off towards the measuring station. He grinned at Xelene as he waited for his turn and stepped forward when she was done. They’ve talked about this day for ages and now they are here!

The measuring tape made one last sweep around the boy before giving a tiny, satisfied twitch and returning to the counter. Victor caught it neatly between two fingers and gave it an assessing glance before setting it aside. His eyes returned to the boy, a faint glimmer of amusement in them as he briefly considered ankles - as a concept. "I have learned not to question the methods of a measuring tape that has been doing this longer than either of us has been alive."

With that, he reached for the ladder, climbing several rungs easily before extending one hand toward a particular row. His fingers travelled along the boxes, pausing once, twice, before withdrawing a narrow box from further back before he descended and brought it to the counter.

"Well, then. Let us see what we have to work with," Victor mused as he opened the box and turned it toward the boy, offering the wand with a small nod. "Take it in your dominant hand and give it a little flick or whirl, whatever feels comfortable for you."

Victor's attention shifted toward the girl as the measuring tape made its final pass around her. He watched it pause at her chin, twitch as though considering whether there was anything else it had forgotten, and then finally retreat toward the counter.

"Finished," he announced, catching it neatly before it could decide to make another circuit. He glanced at the tape before setting it down, his undivided attention turned toward the girl and her unmistakable enthusiasm. The anticipation was quite impossible to miss, and there was something rather endearing about the way she had practically jogged into position the instant the measuring area became available.

Strolling along at ground level, Victor stretched and reached for one of the higher shelves, fingertips moving across several boxes before he selected one and pulled it free. He carried it back with a little flourish and placed it before her.

"Here we are," he smiled, opening the box and angling it toward her. "You don't need to perform for me, and you certainly don't need to worry about doing it incorrectly. If it is the right wand, it will usually make its opinion known. And if it isn't, well… that is what the rest of the shelves are for."

Victor caught the measuring tape neatly as it returned from its work, giving the little enchanted instrument a brief look of appraisal before setting it back on the counter. For once, it seemed content to just curl up - perhaps for a much needed nap.

There was something pleasantly infectious about the boy's obvious amusement, causing the man to give pause as he thought about another little boy who had started laughing for the first time not too long ago. Chuckling to himself, Victor offered this young man a small smile before moving toward the shelves.

"Now, you have been very patient. Let us see whether the wands are feeling equally cooperative..."

He reached for the ladder and climbed several rungs, his gaze travelling thoughtfully along the rows of boxes. Rather than immediately taking the first one that caught his attention, he paused, shifted one box aside, then another, before finally selecting one from behind them.

Descending, Victor carried it carefully back to the kid and slid the lid off.

"Let's start with this one," he nodded. "Take it gently. Dominant hand. Let your fingers settle naturally around the handle, and then give it a little movement."

His gaze flicked toward the girl, catching the quiet anticipation in her expression without making a fuss over it. He had worked with enough first-time wand buyers to know that excitement did not always need to be announced loudly - and sometimes it was the polite thing to not draw too much attention to it, as was the case with his own daughter... or else risk fireworks later.

"Well," he said, approaching the shelves, "I suppose we should see whether we can find you something pretty."

That would be one to tell the wife about.

Victor reached for the ladder and climbed, scanning the shelves and pulling himself along towards the window. One box was pulled forward, considered, and pushed back into place. And then another, and another, and another. Finally, his hand settled on a box tucked farther back, and he drew it free before climbing back down carried it to her.

"Here we are." Victor opened the box, revealing the wand within, and angled it so she could see it properly before offering it to her. "Just hold it naturally and see what happens."

The measuring tape made its rounds, and Victor waited patiently until it finally returned to the counter.

"Ah, sí," he nodded, glancing back to the boy before he was walking towards the shelves. Victor moved along the bottom for a bit, then summoned the ladder to him to climb higher, then back to the ground again, before finally selecting a box and returning to the boy's side. "Go ahead and give it a gentle flick."

To say Colton wasn't excited was a understatement, the boy was practically skipping the small narrow street with his parents smiling and shaking their heads at his excitement and enthusiasm that came with getting his wand at last. He couldn't believe that it was finally here, he was getting his wand for Hogwarts! Looking back to see his parents behind him, he seen his mum's soft warm smile and her watery eyes as well as her 'Go ahead baby, we're right behind you, but it gotta be you to do this!' With a nod he pushed opened the door as the bell jingle above his head. Woah...this is so cool look at all these wands!"

After a bit of wait, it was finally his turn to get measured with the magical measuring tape. Taking a little gulp, he stepped forward as it started to work measuring him from shoulder to fingertips, he laughed a bit as it went over his arms it tickled a bit. As the tape finished, he stepped down biting his lip wondering what kind of wand he was going to get, his parents told him the wand chooses the witch or wizard. Although he didn't understand why and was sure not even most witches or wizards knew that either.

Victor caught the measuring tape neatly as it returned to the counter, giving it a brief glance as though checking that it had not missed anything important. He set it down, then turned his attention to the boy, catching the boy's barely-contained excitement with an amused smile. “Claro, claro.”

He stepped away from the counter, making his way toward the shelves until he reached the ladder and climbed, eyes moving thoughtfully over the boxes until he selected a narrow box from somewhere around the middle row.

Climbing back down, Victor opened the box and revealed the wand nestled inside to the young hopeful. "Go ahead and try this one, let your fingers settle where they naturally want to. Then give it a small wave."

Dev was quite impressed with the smooth manner in which the tape was easily caught by the Wand dude. Perhaps the two had practised such for the umpteenth time. “You can’t beat experience, I guess,’’ he remarked, eyeing the tape measure. The words in turn made him think about his own hunger for far more experience with the cello. Also, just how old was that tape?!

Devad tugged his mind away from all distractions with great difficulty to track the man’s movements. It fascinated him, the way things were thoughtfully pondered upon before a box was selected. He felt a sudden surge of excitement course through his veins. Could this be his wand? Though chances of finding the right one on the first try were probably immensely slim…

“Okay! Here goes.” Though he seized the lovely looking wand quite confidently with his right hand, it was a feeble flick with which he managed to perform. The wand definitely thought so too due to the manner in which it reacted. It suddenly grew very hot to the touch. “OW!” Devad immediately dropped it onto the counter to examine his palm and fingers. To his surprise, everything seemed to be normal. And the stinging had already stopped. “Very odd.” Dev squinted at the wand then leveled his gaze at the shopkeeper. “It basically burnt me for a second.” His tone was full of wonder. “But you wouldn’t think that anything happened. Look.” He flipped his hand, palm side up.

It was quite clear that particular wand was not for him.

“So it has,’’ CeeCee remarked, her gaze fixated on the tape in the man’s hand. Truthfully, she had only just started to get a bit impatient with its antics. However! No harm done as it was clear that the more exciting aspect of this process was just about to start. “So,’’ Ciara began conversationally after politely greeting the adult. “If you don’t mind me asking, how do you know which wand that could potentially be mine?” Did the wand whisper some finding to him? Did they somehow share a telepathic link, if such were possible with an inanimate object?

“Oh wow. That is one pretty wand!” Could it possibly be hers? Fingers and toes crossed! Cee’s eyes narrowed slightly at the other words. Perform? But what was life without it? She grinned nevertheless. “I shall try not to.” Okay. Right. It was time to get serious. Being right handed, this was the hand used to lift the wand out of the box. It was given a graceful and confident wave.

A loud and rude sound filled the shop, leaving Cee to make the most disgusted of faces. Just what was the sound? The one that made when one stuck their tongue between their lips and blew. A raspberry. A fart. She was highly unimpressed and disgusted, which was why the wand was returned to the box.

“Thank you. Next.”

The Little Baek couldn’t help it. He giggled again, and this time threw in a short bout of applause when the tape was caught by the man. For him, it was like a mini show - the tape zooming all around, it eventually settling down neatly… he rather liked it all! Speaking of ‘like’... Baek instantly warmed up to the shopkeeper. Yes, he liked this adult; the man had comforting vibes. One would always be safe around him. The chuckle, the smile, the words - everything spoke volumes in a positive light about him.

“Hopefully they are!” Baek replied, nodding his head then doing an excited little wiggle. He said no more though. Mr. Wand Man was clearly concentrating and taking his time with selecting the bestest possible wand for him. The little guy could already feel the gratitude for that bubbling up within.

“Understood.” With another wiggle, Baek reached out with his right hand. His fingers carefully and gently wrapped around the handle. He immediately noted how comfortable it felt in his hand, how it seemed to fit perfectly like one of those gloves his eomeoni got him that always pulled snuggly over his small hands. The object was given a small curve wave - shaped like a smile.

A mesmerising cluster of bubbles sprang forth - transparent and about two dozen times the size of a regular one. Baek’s mouth formed a small ‘O’ of surprise. He just did that! Wowzah! The bubbles floated all around and what was special was that they didn’t pop. Not even when they collided with objects. “Um…” His eyes followed one of the bubbles that had only just bumped into a wand box. “I don’t think those are going away anytime soon, Mister. But I like this wand! It feels like a good friend!’’ Not that he had many of those. Friends, that is.
