Xelene almost twirled at the professor’s response to her answer. Words of affirmation was definitely her way to feel appreciated AND it also meant that she was smart. Maybe she didn’t have eloquent ways of answering clever questions, but she had answers and she’d use them!

Taking notes of the following, the Gryffindor subtly bounced in her seat at the prospect of a task. She was so ready!

Twirling the quill between her fingers, all Xelene could think about was how pretty it would look if it matched her marble vanity table back home in her bedroom. Why hadn’t she thought to have a matching quill before? Not for writing, but for aesthetic purposes.

That was an idea for another day.

She gave the spell a few practice runs before actually attempting anything, mumbling, “Velare, Velare, Velare,” under her breath.

Xelene never quite knew how many times of repeating an incantation meant she was ready to perform the spell. Would she feel a tingle in her stomach or in her fingers? She shrugged to herself, and cast before she thought about it too much.

“Velare!” She envisioned her quill changing, transforming to appear like the desk. Other thoughts invaded her mind, too. Like the marble swirls of her vanity table, the subtle golden specks, the milky mix of iridescent white and milky tones.

The Gryffindor blinked at her quill. It was…it was turning a shade of brown and…uh oh. There was a mix of white in it too.
