He ran a hand through his hair - a nervous and awkward tick for him.
He listened to Louise, learning that she liked the idea of treats. Great! he thought before glancing down at Aslan who was circling around his legs. Noah nodded in agreement. That sounded like a good plan to me. "Sure!" Then HE was the one holding the leash for Fiona. "Ready Fiona? Aslan?" he asked and glanced at both briefly before he started to take a step forward.
Okay, hopefully this worked. He started to make his way towards the first obstacle where Louise and Lucy were. Aslan kept close to Noah and kept an eye on the wampus. He hadn't had much time to ask if the other kneazle (Lucy) thought of the wampus Though part of him thought that the wampus may have been able to understand them. His tail swished. Suspicious, he was.
AND then the wampus kitty started running - well not running - but moving rather quickly so Noah picked up his pace. So far so good? Looks like the plan was working, hey?? Or perhaps the wampus just really liked Louise. Quote:

Anyway.
Louise was hurrying down the course, waiting for Fiona to follow her and the treat in her hand. In all her focus, though, Louise forgot that she wasn't supposed to stare into the wampus' eyes for long. Or at all, really. But by the time Fiona reached her though, it was too late and Louise was already struck with the brilliant idea to pick up the wampus. She was just so CUTE. How could she resist? HOW?
Giggling at the wampus' meow, Louise stooped down to pick up the niiiiiice little kitty, her bright red hair falling over her shoulders as she brought the kitty up to hold to her chest. WHO DID THIS WILD FELINE THINK SHE WAS? As the wampus passed Lucy, the white kitty picked up the pace to run after her owner in an attempt to separate them, but she was too slow. Before she knew it, her precious Louise was picking up the WAMPUS. HOW DARE SHE??? "MRRRRROOOOWOOWOWOWOWOW." OBJECTION, YOUR HONOR. Ahhhhh, yes, it worked, as it always did. Fiona make a devilish little :3 face as Louise picked her up, and immediately she started batting at the girl's hair. SHINY! SHINY! SHINY! She might've even flicked her claws out to see if the hair would shred, too, like shiny, glossy, metallic red yarn. SOFUNTOBATBATBAT.
As for the boy? Fiona turned her eyes on him too, obviously IGNORING the other animals at his feet. Hello, she was the rare and important one here? Now then, would the boy be a dear and undo her harness? Fiona let out a loud purrrrrrrr to draw him in, even though one of her paws was currently claws-deep in Louise's hair. PURRRRRRRPURRRRRRRPURRR. Well, if she wasn’t, he was about to find out because now, he was OOOOOFFFF! Still holding the wire that had the toy mouse on the end, one half of the Team Prefect started to run around the obstacle course, the mouse just behind, tantalizingly close to the feline he hoped!
Come on little Ruuufus! Come get the nice little mouse! Oh yes, Rufus had taken off, running at nearly his full speed as he tugged the other Ravenpaw around behind him. But he wasn't chasing the mouse, oh no. He wasn't afraid to dream a little bigger, darling. He leapt over a small obstacle on the course and used it to push off, gaining more height and momentum as he aimed for the boy's back.... and......... WHUMP!
Rufus successfully collided into the back of the male Ravenclaw prefect, knocking him down and over into the grass as he landed on the boy's back with a triumphant purrrrr. And 10/10! He stuck the landing! He nailed it! Well, not literally, because he didn't have his claws out. This was just the practice round, after all. For such a small kitten, Rufus was pretty powerful.
He calmly licked one of his paws in a congratulatory self-grooming. Quote:

"Sure, we would love to work with him." Taking the leash she made her way to the obstetrical course. "Do you want to try first? I didn't really get to try with my cat, she was not listening very well." Chloe was being a bit distracted herself and wasn't sure she'd have full focus on the creature, but if Aboli wanted her to go first she could. "Rufus I hope you can be a good boy for us." She smiled down at the baby wampus, they were the cutest things. WOULD HE be a good boy? Rufus glanced up at the girl, his tail flicking back in forth in contemplation of her. She looked smart, but she was also making perfect eye contact with him right now, so....
He tilted his head slightly and decided to give her an order. Punch the other girl in the arm. Do it. Do it now. Do it because I said so and I'm the cutest thing you've ever seen and you want me to let you hold me? Don't you? Donnnnnnnnnn't you? I'll let you hold me if you punch her AND step on her foot! The second year looked on in horror as the baby Wampus slammed against an invisible barrier and was knocked out cold in front of all of them.
With only a slight amount of hesitation, Isla abandoned the treats she'd laid on the ground and followed WWW over to get a better look. She just had no idea what to say, so she said nothing at all. Please don't be dead. PLEASE don't be dead... She glanced over at Avalon, who was steadily apologizing, and Isla suddenly felt like she should do the same. "I'm so sorry, Sir," she chimed in. Sorry for like...the fourth time this lesson. Avalon was right. They should have thought through the whole leash thing before just diving right into things.
She watched as WWW cast on the cat. Rennervate. Why hadn't she thought of that? Isla wasn't the best judge of things when it came to figuring out what to do on the spur of the moment. When the cat came to, Isla released a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding in. "Look, I don't know how I can make it up to you, Sir, but I'm going to make good on all the mistakes I've made in this lesson. All of them." She wasn't necessarily volunteering to scoop up more animal dung, but there could be some negotiations. She peered back down at Fiona, who looked to be like she was asking someone to pet and pamper her.
NOPE. Not Isla. She was volunteering the Ravenclaw for this one. Quote:

Thank Merlin she was okay, but it didn't make up for how embarrassed Avalon was about the whole ordeal. The wampus seemed like she wanted some pets and attention, but Avalon was not going to take that bait. Even though the cat was just a baby, and was probably injured, she didn't want to risk getting her hand bitten off or something. Isla looked as if she didn't want to take that chance either. Avalon reached into her pocket and dropped a few treats in front of Fiona's nose. Not that it would make up for what had happened, but it was better than just standing there. Plus, she felt bad for not petting the poor thing. "....meow?" Fiona blinked long and slow as no one seemed moved by her best meow. She closed her eyes again, but could smell the treats, so she stuck her long tongue out and whipped it around the few that Avalon dropped, bringing them into her mouth for a taste.
PFFT. EWW. Those were NOT bacon OR deer flavored. Just as quickly as she'd sucked up the treats, Fiona was spitting them back out again and meowing LOUDER this time. What, NOW they were being cautious around the wampus? WWW rolled his eyes at Isla and Avalon, not that they could see that. Sunglasses had more uses than one.
He ran a hand over the wampus, not really concerned since he had dragonhide gloves on and dragonhide was THE BEST. Dragon anything was a winner in his book. The cat felt fine, no broken bones or anything, and when she spat out the treats, he (rightfully) guessed that she was just up to her usual dramatics. "Trying to control humans with legilimency, I see," he mused, standing up and tucking his wand back into its wrist holster on his left hand.
"Okay, maybe try to just give her some exercise?" He looked between the girls, but not specifically at one or the other. He was a bit disappointed by both of them, to be frank. "I think she likes toys." And with that, the professor walked away to leave them to their charge.

She didn't seem very happy to be here, but to him, that meant he just had to try harder to make things exciting. After a deep breath, he mustered up a big smile. "I don't know if it's a good idea, or a bad idea, but it sure is an idea." Closing his deep blue eyes, Zach put two fingers at each of his temples, as if he had a migraine. "Wampus can read minds using legilimency, right?" Taking another deep breath, the boy crouched in front of the wampus kitten Rufus, eyes still closed. "If we show that our intentions are good, maybe we can convince this little guy to cooperate."
Taking his fingers from his head, Zachary took the leash in one hand. The Hufflepuff wasn't an expert at occlumency, but he knew some tricks. "Imagine each of your thoughts are on a card, and put them back in the deck until your mind is clear." One more deep breath. It was going to be all or nothing. "And then you choose the cards you want to play."
Opening up his pretty blues, it was time for him to play his hand as he made eye contact with the six legged kitten. One by one, he let a curated list of memories and thoughts enter his mind. It felt like damming a raging river, but his will held strong. Opening with an image of the Wampus House crest at Ilvermorny, he moved on to a memory of hiking through the mountains in the Southwestern United States three summers ago with his family, the sun shining bright in his mind. "..country roads, take me home..." Zach sang some dumb old song at a whisper, unable to untangle the song from that memory.
Shuffling the deck in his mind, Zach began to play cards from today, starting with breakfast. Bacon, eggs, sausage and toast. He did his best to focus on the bacon and sausage, trying to recall the smell and the taste. Letting the memory of bacon linger in his mind, next he went back to only a few minutes ago, watching Streaky run the obstacle course. Of course, he omitted the part where the cat took off into the air. "Help me out, and I'll introduce you to the wonders of bacon."
This was his gambit. Zachary knew it was careless, but he had to cast out any doubts he had when he cleared his mind. He could already be hypnotized, and not even know it. If he failed, it would be up to Nina, and maybe the professor, to clean up his mess. Quote:

Their Professor was being a tad theatrical, no? Either way, she did NOT plan on holding onto the leash. It had rained the night before and falling into the mud was not something Nina wanted to risk. As such, she was relieved when Zach took the leash from her before the cat could take off. ”……. Right,” Nina smiled at Zachary as he began to explain his strategy, but as far as she was concerned, his mind clearing thing was rather ridiculous. He sounded like the divinations Professor. And no offense to Professor Kitridge, but divinations was the least useful class. Like. Ever.
…………………… Country roads? ………………… Bacon?
Was it too late to ask for another partner? Hers was actually crazy. She turned back to give Professor Williamson a look. Was he HEARING all of this???
But as ridiculous as it was? The wampus was LEADING the way towards the obstacle course??? ”I can’t believe I’m actually saying this… But I think your plan is working,” The wampus actually WANTED to travel through the course. Whatever Zachary was doing with this bacon nonsense, she was somewhat impressed. If not utterly grossed out. Bacon is disgusting. Wampus could, indeed, read minds, but mostly they preferred projecting their thoughts and wishes on others. It was all about control for Rufus. Still, like a moth to a flame, he stopped his prancing, as his attention was drawn to staring into Zachary's blue eyes. BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Did they have deer bacon here? That, specifically, was this wampus' favorite. He was also partial to fat Kentucky squirrels, if they had any. Rufus tilted his head as he looked at Zach and planted the idea for the boy to go bother the professor about bacon. Bacon bacon bacon bacon. MMMMMMMM. Bacon. He was certain the man had some. He'd seen it in a cooler behind the cage.
As for the girl? Rufus focused his adorable, amber yellow eyes on her. No, she didn't need to hang on to the leash. Yes, the cat seemed to nod, that old man WAS theatrical. And he had a ridiculous name. Three W's? Who in their right mind even LIKED the letter W? It was a stupid name. ALMOST as stupid as Rufus, but Rufus hadn't named himself, no. If he were to name himself, he'd probably call himself.... hmm, Calyx? Cat-lix. Yes, that was a good name, wasn't it?
Rufus flicked his tail to signal Nina to let him lead the way to the obstacle course. Watch. If she just loosened up her hold on his lead, he'd make her look REAL GOOD and give her a VERY fast time here. Text Cut: Heath & Destiny Quote:

Although he heard the professor say the wampuses had been fed and would probably not attack the other cats, he wasn't willing to risk them making a Rey-tatouille out of his pet! He almost lost his grip on the cat when he remembered someone said something about avoiding eye contact. Maybe if he covered Rey's eyes… Nooooo! Must break free of smol hooman… Must go to big kitteh! Hey, what are you doing? Stop that! I can't see!
Blink, blink. Whaa…? Rey looked down to find her claws dug into the boy's arm. Oh, no, I hurt smol hooman! I sowwy I iz bad kitteh. I be good now… She snuggled back into her hooman's lap, giving his hand a head boop as an apology.
Rey calmed down the moment Heath placed his hand over her eyes… just in time for him to jot down the list of facts on the board. His heart softened toward the wampus kittens after hearing their story, especially little Fiona. She sort of reminded him of Rey, being the runt of her litter and all. Maybe that's why Rey was so keen to get to her… and it looked like she may get the chance yet if they were supposed to run the obstacle course with the wampuses. Truth be told, Heath wasn't sure what to make of this activity. He still didn't quite trust those wampus kittens not to hurt Rey, and he detested group work! Still, he knew better than to complain. His eyes darted in search of a partner, and - Oh, look! All the hoomans are playing together, but what's this? My smol hooman is all alone. I go find friend for him!
Rey jumped down from the boy's lap and sped off toward the nearest hooman, knowing he would follow her. She flopped on her back and looked up at the strange hooman with a meep! Hiii, hooman!
In the blink of an eye, Rey was gone. Heath ran after her, catching up just as she flopped in front of some random person. "Sorry about her," he apologized. "D-d'you mind partnering with me?" Since he was already here, he supposed it couldn't hurt to ask. Quote:

It did, however, make her wonder if the Professor man could run the obstacle course in his human form, and she would've totally asked him that, too.
If it hadn't been for the distraction of the cat who was now in front of her. "Caaaaat." She reached down to pet him? her? She didn't know what it was, before glancing up at the cat's owner. "YEAH! We can be partners!" Was it a good idea on his behalf? No, probably not. But, his cat wasn't broken, since it was walking around all on its own and all. "I didn't do the obstacle course, though." But the FOX Professor did. Did he see!? "My cat is broken. Professor Williamson said he'd fix him. I don't know how he's gonna do it." Too much information, huh? "I'm Flora, by the way. You can pick which wampus we use!" She didn't have a good track record when it came to picking out cats. Okay, great! These two were partnering up. And between them, they had 1.5 useable cats. Williamson gestured for Flora and Heath to come pick out their wampus, though he was also guessing that they'd probably choose Fiona since Flora was looking at Eris with big doll eyes.
Well. Good for the silver fox, eh ehehehheh. He could start a fanclub. Text Cut: Claudine Quote:

Same with our kneazles.”
Without realising it, Claudine was squinting at Rufus’s neck. Her subconscious reasoning behind this decision was that should Rufus look at her, she’d be able to shut her eyes quickly. Yes, she was that suspicious of Rufus. But the toy went flying now and she shook her head. “I think the toy can help lure him around the course. Shall we, Flynn? And for Merlin's sake don’t look at him in the eyes or I’ll jinx you. What if he wants you to… I don’t know… lick thestral poop off the ground?’’ Cue eye roll at the partner. All that Fiona had been telling her to do was to open the cage but Claudine was not going to disclose that. First of all, Rufus didn't smell any thestral poop in here, he'd already checked. And second of all, he wanted more than just SQUINTING in his general direction. He wanted pets and attention and the opportunity to practice his hypnosis as well.
He showed his displeasure for Claudine by turning around and showing her his börthöle, tail up in the air as he did a big streeeeeeeeeeeeetccccccccccccchhhhhhhhhhh. Quote:

Kitt SUPPOSED what everyone else said was okay but now he liked his idea better and wasn't entirely sure what to make of these cats. Not cats. Cat relatives. They had fur and paws. Close enough.
And why was Sparky trying to get toward the cage?
No no, he'd stay right here in his lap...until now because partners? The Gryffindor rose to his feet and looked about for someone but dang these filled up quickly and being the new guy, no one was really tripping over themselves to grab him. Kitt looked around, then over at the professor as he was handing Cecelia--that was her name, yes?--to a pair that were already partners. "Oh! Oh! Ooohhhhh! Professor!" He waved his hand frantically despite not being all that far from the man. Sparky, he held close because he was still acting up. "I too would like to also have a partner as well." "Can I have her instead?" "By her, I'm guessing you mean Cece and Fiona?" Williamson WOULD have laughed at Kitt if this particular Gryffindor hadn't already given him gray hair this lesson. He shrugged. "Sure. You work with Cece and take Fiona, and we can let Tom and Blake take Rufus."
Fiona was the easier one, anyway, and he wasn't sure Kitt here was a cat person.
