Madam Puddifoot's is laid out in a typical English tea room fashion. Lace doilies cover each table on top of the flower patterned table cloths. In the middle of each is a contained candle, ready to be lit for those on a romantic retreat. The windows are half covered by fancy net curtains, leaving just enough room at the top to see over and down Hogsmeade's High Street. Little flower and heart covered cushions are on each seat awaiting your arrival.
The shopkeeper, a descendant of the original owner, keeps the shop this way because she has to. She has no desire to look upon all the fancy decorations herself, which is why you'll most likely find her in the back room. She'll come and serve you when you ring the bell on the counter, but make sure you know what you want to order as she doesn't have all day. Keep your snogging to a minimum unless you want to be kicked out.

A strange calmness surrounded the situation, their table, and it was certainly not of the unpleasant variety. It was akin to sitting with a cup of his favorite brew of matcha in the quiet of the evening while he sat on the raised porch surrounding the dojo just beyond the zen garden and the smell of fresh rainfall on the leaves of the surrounding trees. The ease and comfort with which conversation flowed was something he had not experienced in quite some time - though he had been told that his charisma meant he could carry conversation and charm even an enraged banshee - and it felt his heart drum dreamily. A rhythm he dare not dance to just yet, however.
"Nature versus nurture, isn't it?" he chuckled while running his finger up and down the condensation on his glass. "I a sense, I believe that to be true," he nodded. Though at age 11, Kurumi would have had no idea of the horrors their mother had been through at the hands of pureblood fanatics from their incredibly Slytherin lineage. "But as fate would have it, one of her sons was Sorted into Slytherin and, apparently, he rejected Gryffindor. I think though, my sister and her husband are doing something right...they have children in each house." Kurumi being a Gryffindor and Lewis a Hufflepuff and resulted in two Hufflepuffs, a Ravenclaw, A Slytherin, and a Thunderbird who Ryu felt confident would have been a Gryffindor had he attended Hogwarts like the other two in the set of triplets. "Ah, so you possess the butterfly persona," he chuckled again, her mannerisms and the way she spoke coming into focus more clearly. "You can see the beauty in others but not how beautiful your own wings are."
Ryu was doing a lot more than chuckling at her prediction of him as a student. "If...only," he mused. While not a bad student, he was certainly a handful. Away from home and the weight of the responsibilities he had there had been a lot for him and his budding adolescence to handle. "I was...quite the Gryffindor, brawn and all. Though not quite as thick as the house is often assumed to be. Quidditch and dueling, both of which encouraged my eventually stint in Magical Law Enforcement but...a was quite the handful when I wanted to be." Hogwarts had been a place to unburden himself and be himself for himself, whereas when he returned to Japan and home...he had no choice but to slip into another version of himself and those two sides were only recently becoming harmonious with one another.
Dork would suffice - he was certainly feeling as such himself and now with a hand burning and tingling in the memory of where it had just been.
"Well, I will simply have to have you out to campus sometime," he nodded with an almost impish sort of grin creeping across his lips. "Though, due to it being unplottable, you will require an escort...unless you fancy trying a ride upon a giant storm petrel." Which he could not say he entirely recommended - he would rather ride a Hungarian Horntail. His invitation was a sincere one, though perhaps a bit too much considering this was their first meeting and to ask her to travel across the Pacific just to see plum blossoms and cherry blossoms felt like a might exaggerated request. Still, he would be glad to give her a tour. Some suave was wipe away with the gentle callout, but not enough for his face to fall - there may have been a glint of something in his eyes, however. "I have more now than was allowed previously," he replied with a soft smile. "Though, it has been my story since I was very young to take care of other's needs long before considering my own."
Thankfully, conversations involving food were much lighter and worthy of laughter. "Suppose you'll be needing to prepare the holy water should my strides meet the ground there," he mused while leaning back a bit in his chair and, certainly, no longer practicing his calligraphy on the top of the table with condensation he had removed from the side of his glass. "Why jam before cream? Or is that a silly question, like whether or not to use a microwave to make tea?" He had no qualms with simple teas, sometimes simple was best and the scramble to create something unique resulted in convoluted brews with no soul. Waving down a waiter (that was how this establishment worked, yes?) Ryu put in an order and added the request for a bowl of fresh fruit as well.

The ease of conversation and the miraculous dissipation of the awkwardness that had been painfully present on the first meeting, was working wonders to distract Ruby from the other much younger patrons enjoying their own dates. It was helping to contain the bubble surrounding the pair, to drown out any instances of judgment or watchful eyes and lessen the intimidation that only a teenager could cause. In fact she had barely taken heed of them since the conversation had flowed, thank Merlin. She had been told much the same, that she was warm and personable and that despite her own feelings of insecurity, she did a marvelous job of making others feel heard. It was a juxtaposition of personality traits gained from each of her parents.
“That’s correct. My father is rather scientifically minded, I’m sure he’d have something to comment but I regret that I am not well versed enough in psychology to make my own decision.” She supposed that was the biggest difference between muggle and magical school, they didn’t touch on biology or the other sciences when magic could effectively solve their problems. “I’d like to think that we aren’t completely influenced by who our parents are, that we are capable of change particularly positive change and—” She paused, aware that the tangent she was heading towards was likely not the usual fodder for a date. “—and this is terribly boring isn’t it?” Her lip caught the side of her cheek upon the realisation of her lack of reading the situation. Back to the conversation about his family which was far more interesting. “A diverse family is lovely, I think that’s what I’d wish for too. Looking back, Tabitha could’ve easily been a Gryffindor and we would’ve just been missing the Hufflepuff.” The Sorting Hat hadn’t even debated Ruby’s assignment but she would’ve been the most likely candidate for the Badgers amongst her siblings.
As for being a butterfly, Ruby would’ve thought herself more of the Ugly Duckling who hadn’t quite figured out how to be a swan. The irony being that she had always been the figure of serenity and grace but her opinion of herself hasn’t caught up. There were definitely butterflies in her however, a swarm of them fluttering within her stomach. “I-” she stuttered, the butterflies finding her way to her mouth and taking away any comprehension of words. “It’s hard to compare when the world is full of such beautiful things.” she admitted.
Ryu was evidently the opposite of Ruby in school, quite surprising considering the similarities that they possessed now. She was quiet and studious, kept to herself the majority of the time, had a small group of close friends but who despite not being a sociable butterfly would put the needs of everyone else first. “I could not imagine you having such brawn, you seem far too serene for that lifestyle” she laughed back. “I am a firm believer in channeling your energy to find your path. You seem to be well accomplished in every aspect.” A headmaster, a professor, a law enforcement officer. A truly remarkable man with so many strings to his bow that she couldn’t help but to be in awe. He felt too important to be with her and yet Ruby could not, or did not want to pull away.
She’d always wanted to travel but the thought of being away from her family for long periods of time was painful. She’d regretted not doing so when she was younger, instead throwing herself into work and philanthropy and now stuck in a situation in her late thirties that so many people relied on her that it would break her heart to disappoint. “I’m quite the rider” she smiled, an admission that she would love to come visit. “My mother owns a stable, I’ve grown up riding and flying horses. A winged horse shouldn’t be much different from a giant bird should it?” she grinned, knowing fully well that the difference was likely immeasurable. Ryu might have been merely a stranger but the way that his father had spoken so fondly of him, he already had her full trust, especially as someone as altruistic as she was herself. “I understand that.” This date was perhaps the first time in over a year she had allowed herself the freedom to enjoy herself without the guilt.
“Thankfully for you, the Cornish are a very forgiving group of people. I’d just avoid those with pitchforks and tractors” she teased. The true origins between the battle of the West Country had been vastly changed throughout the centuries that nobody really knew why they were different. “I honestly don’t know. It is a tradition that in Cornwall we spread the jam and dollop the cream whereas the Devonians do the opposite. It’s a silly argument really but it can get rather heated should you do one or the other in the wrong place.” Which was why Ruby would stick to her Cornish roots. “However microwaving your tea is abhorrent and quite frankly unforgivable!” she laughed.

Ryu’s brush with psychology came through with his training in the art of interrogation and criminology - which did not always have the most empathetic lens depending on who the instructor and mentor was at the time. Being a professor and headmaster had provided him with a more nurturing introspective that fed his soul because now, as the idealist in him like to think, he could spot those early warning signs and redirect instead of catching criminals that were often too far gone. The Third Wizarding War and reading up on their leader who to this dad his dad still grieved for reinvigorated the spark and showed him just how deep the nature versus nurture rabbit hole could go. “I’d say that that change is still inspired by who our parents are and their influence,” he proposed with a rub of his scruffy jawline. “Speaking from personal experience, at least. But, just because one may be inspired by them, does not mean one always has to live under their veil.” Though breaking certain cycles could be quite difficult. “Not boring at all,” he assured her with a chuckle. “Though perhaps a conversation that may be best suited for a more private setting in the future.” At least if he was to divulge in his own upbringing. Besides being a particularly private person, Ryu would not want any hearsay getting out to the wrong sorts of outlets and then blow up in the tabloids to paint the Minister in a questionable light. They had all been through enough of that rubbish with his nephew and girlfriend a couple years back.
“Even more difficult when the butterfly cannot see their own wings,” he encouraged softly, a smile one again gracing his features as he found his footing a bit more in that charm his father had boasted to her about and in doing so offered a coy little wink.
“Well, if it is any consolation, my sister does ride on a dragon from time to time and notes that the petrels are remarkably tame by comparison,” he chuckled. Himself having only a broom to compare the flight to and that was completely within his own control. “[b]They are certainly more easily won over than a hippogriff as well, so I imagine you would enjoy the journey. I’ve always found their feathers more pleasant than the mane of an abraxan in my face. They will also, on occasion, escort you to the campus with a serenade./b]” Their song could not compare to the more traditional songbird types but the ones that flew between his school and elsewhere had received some training - he found it helped calm the nerves of first time students.
“Pitchforks and tractors? How…quaint,” he mused, his nervous fingers finding their way into his hair to comb through for a few moments. Nervous not because of the topic of conversation but rather because of the uncertainty for what to do with his hand and the phantom throb teasing his skin. “What a peculiar thing to become so cross about.” Truly, of all the things in this world to want to start an argument over, the order of cream and jam was surely far down on the list if it should be even on it at all. “People will certainly focus on interesting oddities in the quest to be different from others.” Or at least how he identified such arguments. Ryu laughed again and raised his hands in the air in a submissive gesture. “I promise you, there are no microwaves involved when I prepare tea. I do not even own one.”
And, speaking of tea, their spread of tea creams and pot of tea (and bowl of fresh fruit) had arrived at the table.
“So, where do tea creams in Hogsmeade lay within this heated debate?”

Thankfully the ‘art of interrogation’ was not necessary for her career, unless you were trying to pinpoint the cause of pain in a particularly despondent patient. Even then Ruby much preferred to take the gentle approach, they were scared individuals and not criminals after all. “Would you say that you took after your father then?” she asked, noting that his musings rarely mentioned his mother, a subject that she would not push. “It is a little difficult to escape the veil when your mother seems to know anyone and everyone,” she chuckled quietly, a sentiment she imagined that Ryu could relate to too considering who his father was. She was momentarily reassured that an intellectual conversation was not boring but felt a twinge of sheepishness when he suggested it was better suited to a private environment. The problem was that creating a fact file of herself, complete with likes and dislikes and other trivial information you were probably expected to present on a first date, was difficult and seemed so fake. She’d hate to make a decision about a person based on whether they liked the same thing as compromise and seeing things through someone else’s eyes was always an option.
Notoriously shy at receiving compliments, even when spoken by the sincerest of sources, the woman’s eyes redirected to candle at the centre of the table as she felt the heat rise to her cheeks. The wink did nothing to aid in her insecurities, in fact it made her feel rather like a ridiculous schoolgirl unable to control her crushes. How she had managed to survive approaching forty years on this planet without embarrassing herself with her lack of experience she did not know. “I’d argue that I’m more of a moth but I’d rather avoid the light.” Metaphorically she meant, her sister loved the spotlight whereas Ruby preferred the wings.
“I don’t think you’d find me on the back of a dragon.” They were incredible creatures who deserved the respect that they were given but she couldn’t help but feel a little intimidated by their presence. Horses she had grown up around, she’d been nervous around them initially but now could ride along the sandy beaches of Cornwall saddleless. “Well.. I’m sure that I would enjoy the journey but perhaps on my first visit an escort would be greatly appreciated.” Which could imply that visiting more than once was on the agenda, if not for budding romances but because they had developed a friendship, the story of her life it had seemed.
Quaint was an oddly accurate description for Cornwall, full of pretty fishing villages and dramatic coastlines and farming communities who were rightfully proud of their heritage. “I am only teasing, the people are charming I promise” Although they DID take the cream tea debate rather seriously for their rivalry with the neighbouring county. “I suppose if that’s the only thing that they get annoyed with then they must be generally relaxed people.” In her experience that statement was mostly true. Ruby was also not the owner of a microwave purely because magic was much more convenient but her father was muggleborn so her knowledge of the muggle world was extensive. “Good. It wouldn’t be just one county revolting against that, you’d have the whole of Britain” she grinned, a hint of cheek glinting in her eye.
The Mediwitch politely thanked the waitress for the food as it arrived, giving her a brief respite from the distraction of the way that his fingers were running through his hair. “I wouldn’t think that the people of Hogwarts feel strongly either way. However, I’d remind you of whose company you are in and where she was born” she laughed brightly, nudging his leg gently with her foot under the table. And there fell the barrier of nerves she had built around herself.

The bell above the door jingled, followed by the shower of petals. Justus pushed his hair back as soon as he walked in, brushing those petals off with the snow on him. "Here, I'll take it." He offered his hand for her coat. Who was her? Emma. It had been about time he could be in a shop with someone who cherished his company. Even when they were younger, like the Hogsmeade Games... she was patient with him and he never forgot that.
As for his girlfriend, well, soon-to-be ex... The writing was on the wall since she seemed to be more interested in hanging with another guy. Spending an entire summer there. Now more study sessions? No. This wasn't some plan for Justus to gain her attention. He was just the type to simply move on after the signs and vibes were pointing him in a different direction. That was how he rolled. No drama, no fuss, just love and a free mind.
"I'm glad you agreed to come here with me..." Justus said. He wasn't a talker most of the time, unless he was with cool people, and Emma was one of them. "Where do you want to sit at?" Whatever she wanted, he'll follow... and he could pay for her meal, if she wanted. He had respect for her and all.
So was she expecting this outcome? No...definitely not. But it was something that was fun and well at least she could have fun with Diamond. Nothing sinister here. Nope. Amatheia was just goin have some tea with Diamond and be glad it was not someone weird. Just think of the awkwardness if that happened. She could not say ugly because her was hard to find someone she even found unattractive but that was a different tangent.
Entering the tea shop first with a hop in her step. She was radiating a smile that she had not in a while. its what happens when school work drags you down.
"Where do you want to sit Diamond?"

"Where do you want to sit Diamond?"
Was she expecting this precise outcome? Oh, absolutely. Rather she had been manifesting it.
Diamond had, after all, orchestrated this whole matchmaking fiasco with one goal in mind - her first proper kiss. Not one done under the guise of 'for science!' or 'does this actually taste like enchanted cherry vanilla swirl?' but a real, undeniable, no-excuses-needed kiss. Though she would be lying if she hadn't also been hoping for chaos, awkward pairings, maybe even a dramatic public rejection or two - things she could exploit for her gossip column, naturally. However, when Amatheia Barrington’s name appeared in the Gryffindor's notebook - that both written in the Ravenclaw exquisite handwriting - Diamond had nearly squealed.
She followed her bestie into the tea shop, and for once, the ever-composed Diamond felt just the sliiiiiiiiiiiightest hitch in her usual effortless confidence. Because the blonde was GLOWING. Positively radiant in that way she always was when school wasn’t dragging her down, and Diamond was absolutely allowing herself to bask in it.
“There, she nodded toward a cozy corner booth. “Unless, of course, you’d rather sit front and center and let everyone see just how stunning we look together.

Looks what happens when your bestie is just a pure diabolical schemer.
Amatheia turns when she hears the "There" and looks so see the cozy spot picked out. She was a fan of booths and this was more of a just them things so Theia was leaning towards the cozy option instead of the hey everyone look at them option but still decisions decisions.
"We will look stunning whereever we are so why not be cozy as well so I think i like the cozy corner option. Lets go get the spot"
And without further delay takes Diamond's hand and goes to it before someone else can take it
Cant have that happen on this day!

Emma had spent so much time fussing about her hair that she completely forgot about what sort of attire to wear. What did one even wear for a date anyway? Was this a date? Or just a casual tea hang between friends? She supposed at this point Justus was a friend - he'd been rather cool hanging out with during the Woodcroft games two years ago, but then last year she'd been so focused on quidditch she somehow forgot about making time for him. Nonetheless when he asked her if she'd like to join him for tea, she couldn't resist saying yes. Even if she had absolutely no clue what she was doing.
Or why she'd decided to wear a short-sleeved shirt under her parka. Luckily for her she was so nervous about the meeting that she was actually kind of warm. "Is there a spot for coats?" she looked around the quaint shop, as she shrugged the coat off.
"It's been a couple years..." she was usually good with keeping up with friends. She glanced at the pair of girls heading for the corner, recognizing one as Diamond. "Maybe the other corner?" Was this meetup supposed to be secret? She had zero clue about that either. But she also wasn't very good with secrets, having already spilled the tea to Arienne that she was meeting a boy at puddifoots who she had elicited to help her with her hair. "Or by the window?" She shrugged, maybe from his answer it'd help determine if this was meant to be a secret meeting or not. Although by the window she might need her coat back, but for now she was still warm from nerves.

Whilst Justus took her coat, he caught a whiff of Emma's hair. She smelled as good as she looked, mixed with the outdoor snow. A nice combination, he thought as he placed their coats on the nearest rack. His previous thoughts and worries were out the door they entered in.
A couple years... honestly, felt like yesterday. "Mm..." Okay, clearly he was mastering his vocabulary here. "Thinking back I felt that I must've bored you then." Justus glanced at the two girls, sixth years, he recognized Diamond, who wasn't shy about her appearance. And the other girl.. her name escaped, but he saw her around in the common room and she was in the same year as.... "I'm fine with the window..." Justus said. If he were asked, technically it was a secret, but not one he was trying to hide. He preferred to show rather than tell, and he hoped this gesture was enough for Emma to recognize that he wanted his feelings to be known. Moving over to hold her chair out before he took his own seat facing her. "Are you okay?" He asked as he tried to gauge her vibe. She seemed a little off, nervous perhaps? His time zenning in the forbidden areas had him feeling calm enough to pick up on others energy. Or perhaps it was the energy in the shop's loving atmosphere that was messing with his senses.
Dio had a number of things on his mind, but they were partially distracted by his friend, Kritti, by his side. Shopping for presents as usual, but he was pretty hungry now. His eyes scanned through the shop windows before landing on Madam Puddifoot's. A small smile escaped, as he daydreamed the thought of having a date here. They had good treats with tea as a plus.
Before his eyes could wander elsewhere, he spotted through the window familiar figures. No way... Justus with another girl? He blinked looking over to see if Kritti spotted this. If not, he'd have to distract her quickly.
"You in the mood for some Honeydukes?" He asked. Candy seemed better than whatever was going on in the shop.

Krittika was simply over the moon to be outdoors! Winter, shopping, being in Dio’s company… what was there not to love? As the pair strode through the snowy street, Kritti adjusted her pink coat more snuggly around her. Sure, there were Heating Charms but then she wouldn't get to show off this incredible piece of clothing. She happened to glance up at Dio at the exact moment he had this small but adorable smile on his face. “What are you smiling about, Dio?” Her tone was teasing. At the same time, she extended a hand to poke him in the arm. You had better not get too swept up in daydreams and forget that she was here, Mister!
The sixth year followed his gaze, towards Puddifoot’s and was quite about to ask him if he wanted to grab something from the shop. The question flew out of her head and she halted abruptly. “That…” Kritti muttered words that would have earned her a sharp scolding from her parents. “It explains a lot.” Her temper rose quickly but at the same time, a few things fell into perspective: why Justus had gotten distant with her even after his stupid and disastrous attempt to make it up in the Forest, the fact that she was remotely not attracted to him anymore and most importantly, how right her gut feeling had been that something was off. What made her mad though, was the fact that he hadn’t the guts to tell her that he no longer wanted to be in a relationship with her. If he had wanted out, that was more than fine. Krittika did not beg for anyone to stick around in her life. And she certainly did not need him.
She reached for her wand without a second thought as her temper had the best of her. “Langlock!’’ The wand movement traced out in Justus’ direction, she smiled savagely to herself. How accommodating of him to choose to sit next to a window. Since he hadn’t wanted to speak to her, well, now he couldn’t speak to his little girlfriend for a bit. The bonus was that he was going to make a clown of himself when he tried to mime his tongue being stuck to the roof of his mouth.
“I could do with some Sugar Quills,’’ Kritti muttered through clenched teeth as she holstered her wand. Then she threaded an arm around Dio’s closest. “You mind if I vent to you about him? Starting with I definitely do not want anything to do with him ever again.” What an eventful trip this turned out to be.

Cant have that happen on this day!
Diamond let out a dramatic sigh, though the smirk curling at the corner of her lips betrayed her amusement. “Ugh, see, this is why I keep you around. Amatheia Rude Barrinton. It just rolled off the tongue. This is what happens when no thinking goes into something and the opponent is a massive overthinker. Well in this scenario at least. “Why wouldn't I be excited to be here with you???” The blonde asked as she also slid in the booth with no flourish, just natural smoothness. Now what was she going on about???
What moves??? Did the slide count as a move??
Even with the confusion showing on Theia’s face she could not help but be amused at the antics Diamond was doing. So dramatic.
“No better safe space than a booth at a tea shop, huh” She passed her a menu before trying to think of a answer that would not make everything awkward right when they sat down and ruin everything.
“All I was hoping for was something fun and I feel you are the perfect person for that. So thats why im excited and we dont have to start with awkward small talk. So win win there”
Ok maybe they will have to wait and see if its actually a win

Diamond accepted the menu with a little thank you, darling before setting it aside with barely a glance. Her full attention was now on Amatheia. "Well, duuuuUUUUUuh. Try telling me something I don't already know," she purred, propping her chin up with her hand as she let her gaze drag over Theia in a way that was both playful and appraising. "And well done, I GUESS, on what was a very diplomatic answer, Barrington. You'll do well if you ever run for office someday." A generous two out of ten when it came to the Ravenclaw's flirtation game, however. Diamond leaned in just a fraction more, quite unable to control herself now that her bestie was the one obviously back on her heels a bit. "But you are right in that we have no need for awkward small talk - though it really is cozy weather today, if someone had to say something about it." She waved a hand dismissively. "We've already kissed too, after all." A beat. Then, with devilish smirk, "For scientific purposes, of course. Moonlit Honey Hibiscus is still a fan favorite."
Lip gloss flavors, obviously.
Her grin turned downright impish before she leaned back again, fingers idly toying with the edge of her menu.

WELL SHE DID ASK. And now you have Amatheia looking a bit smug over her diplomatic answer. It took all her remaining brain cells to come up with that on the spot. Still more confused then smug but it was progress.
“I’ll be counting on your vote” She snickered because that was just too funny to imagine. One way to make her parents proud. Ok back to reality, she would need a whole new scale that adds in being oblivious but you win some you lose some. Now why was she leaning like that? A question look was given. But then back to amused. “Are you sure it's cozy weather or is it just cozy because we are together?” Now why did she bring that up right off the bat. It's not something you can forget even if it was just for science or fun. Even the taste still lingers sometimes.
“Ok ok maybe a couple steps beyond the small talk thing..…You win with that…Moonlit Honey really is something unforgettable”
And now to look at the menu before she says something more embarrassing.

If Emma noticed Justus smelling her hair, she didn't show it. She knew her shampoo smelled delicious. Being a fifteen year old girl had her very concentrated on finding the best smelling soaps from Madam Primpernelles. Since she wasn't allowed makeup until she was sixteen she had to rely on other beauty products such as good smelling soaps and shampoos.
She tilted her head to the side. "Bored me? How? I'd find the company of a flobberworm entertaining if it meant I could chatter to it without a care," she grinned cheekily. Not that she was calling Justus a flobberworm. If anything else he was more like a cuddly crup or kneazle. She nodded and took the seat he held for her before taking his own seat. "I'm just ... on edge. Nervous. I don't know. Is this ... Are we ..." she gazed out the window spotting two older students she recognized from Ravenclaw, Dio and Krittika. Her thoughts trailed off when she saw the female lift her wand but didn't aim at her, but at Justus instead? What had she cast, Emma had no idea. But that was why the girl looked familiar. She'd seen her around with Justus last year on occasion, although she hadn't paid too much attention.
"Justus?" She said hesitantly, eying him for maybe a third eye growing out of his head or something. But physically there didn't seem to be any changes happening, so maybe the wand was just a ruse.

What was Dio smiling about? Many things, her beauty, her wisdom, many things he wasn't quite ready to share with Kritti. Especially since she was still sort of seeing Justus. Sort of being the keyword by the time he looked inside the Tea Shop. His smile dropped as he set into a desperate attempt to save her from immediate heartache.
Well... that didn't last long. "I'm sorry, Kritti." He said. "I can't believe he did that so openly.." What a coward, he thought. What he didn't expect was Kritti to take her wand out. Okay, he did fantasize this type of scenario, except he was the one with the wand out. Whatever spell she did, Dio could tell this would be quite the tale as he locked eyes with Justus for a brief moment.
Sugar Quills. Yeah, there were better things to look forward to. "Of course, Kritti. My treat." Dio said, walking off with her. Enjoy your date Justus, if that was possible now.
Justus grinned. Thought of him being compared to a flobberworm was entertaining for him to take the subtle compliment. The tension from him was relieved a bit since the air in the shop presented itself. Along with the two girls in the corner. So he nodded when Emma said she was nervous. "Well..." although her gaze did look out the window, his remained on Emma as he reached his hand out towards hers to hold. "I like you Emma..." Perhaps this should've been the right time to look because, "And-" Justus blinked as the words he was about to say seemed to get lost. Or rather, glued to the roof of his mouth. "Uhh..." His hand retreated back to where his throat was. "Ahhhllll-" While certain words he could say like a ventriloquist, what he wanted to say... wasn't going happen unless he was cured since it came out muffled. His other hand reached for his wand. But he was only a fifth year, wordless magic was risky here.
That was when Justus' eyes then looked out the window to see his now ex-girlfriend and Dio walking away. His left hand lowered as he got confirmation, she was dating Dio now. No doubt about it. Instead he took a napkin and used his right hand to motion the use of a quill. He would need one to get out of this predicament. What a lovely day this was turning for him.

Diamond was trying to have a moment here. She really was.
The atmosphere was perfect - dim lighting, a little warmth from the tea, Amatheia saying things she probably didn’t even realize were flirting and that just made the blonde all the more alluring, and yet- yeeeeeeeeeeet - people couldn’t resist being disasters around her. Her quill was already in hand before she even realized it, parchment sliding into place beside her empty teacup as she tuned into the chaos happening just a few tables over. It wasn’t like she was eavesdropping on purpose and totally entirely their fault for making an absolute spectacle of their love lives in public. She had a duty, an oath, to uphold as a journalist so who was she to ignore the free content?
Still, she was annoyed. Did they have to do this while she was actively trying to put the moves on her best friend? It was hard enough as it was without being constantly reminded that some people were failing at romance so catastrophically that they were handing her an entire article on a silver platter. Diamond had just managed to get a solid sentence or several paragraphs down when with her secret blend of Protean Ink - oh? Ohhh, was that what she thought it was?
Her quill stilled against the parchment, her lips curling into a slow, knowing grin as she turned her attention fully back to Amatheia. This was so unfair. How was she supposed to balance professional-grade gossip reporting when her best friend was out here, saying things that sounded a lot like flirting?
"Wait, hold on—did you just—" A pause, dramatic, deliberate, before she let that grin stretch wider. It was so hard to have you attention divided sometimes, you know? Ugh. "Are you saying I make things cozier? Because that definitely sounds like what you’re saying, and I haven’t even slipped my arm around your shoulders yet."
Which was precisely the cue to do so.
Her quill and parchment? Abandoned. The gossip? On hold. Because obviously, this was more important. She shifted closer, arm draping over Amatheia’s shoulders like it was the most natural thing in the world, fingers grazing lightly against the fabric of her jumper. "And now I have," she murmured, tilting her head to observe Amatheia's reaction. "So… what’s the verdict? Have I officially improved the coziness of our date, or do I need to try harder?"
Text Cut: WIP embellished half-baked gossip
Lovestruck readers, brace yourselves, because today’s tale of love's cruel sting comes straight from the tragically misguided romantic stylings of Madam Puddifoot’s. And the cast? None other than Justus Davidson - the walking definition of poor decision-making - Emma Montmorency, the ever-oblivious supporting role, and Krittika Joshi, the unsuspecting (now former) girlfriend caught in the middle of it all.
Picture this: soft snowfall, the scent of overpriced tea, and nn strolls Justus with Emma, carrying her coat like some storybook gentleman. Chivalrous? Perhaps. Innocent? NOT IN THE SLIGHTEST. You see, this was not a friendly catch-up over biscuits: this was a date. And in case you missed it, Justus was still very much in a relationship with Krittika. Or so she and we all thought.
Rather than, I don’t know, breaking up with his girlfriend before moving on, Justus chose the far classier route of public betrayal. Stunning. And just when you thought he couldn’t dig himself a deeper grave, fate (or a particularly scorned girlfriend) intervened.
something something with hexes for justice something something - come back to this later once Amatheia stops being so attractive and after you've snogged not for science
Moral of the story? If you’re going to cheat, maybe don’t do it in a place that serves heartbreak with a side of biscuits.
Stay tuned, darlings. The tea is always brewing, and I’ll be here to serve it piping hot.

And there goes Diamond. The switch has been flipped and she is all in gossip mode right now. Theia really had to think of a better name for it but maybe a time when her mind wasn't in such a flurry of embarrassment over things said and what was happening. If things were say normal she would enjoy the show. Problem this time is the show was Amatheia and Diamond was on a mission. Diamond Mode was a tiny bit better, ok lets forget this idea for now. Hold onto what?? She could hold onto Diamond. But that might make everything worse. Hold onto the table...nah. She needed a drink to distract herself like 5 minutes ago.
“I mean you do when you aren't in gossip mode. You look like you were on a mission multitasking. So serious in a tea shop”
Which made Amatheia smile. Poor Quill just had about enough. Ooooh so thaat was what it took, to make the girl put down her quill and stop brewing gossip.
“I’d give it an 9 out of 10 for effort with room for improvement…Much cozier now. I like having your full attention on a date” This was a date after all right? But she could not resist asking the question.. “Also what were you writing about???”
Curiosity would kill the Ravenclaw eventually. Let's hope it was not today.

Diamond gasped, the very audacity of the accusation making her press a hand to her chest like she’d been mortally wounded - like, just Avada Kedavra her, why don't you? "Excuuuuuuuuuse me? You say that like I chose to go into gossip mode... like I wanted to be distracted while on a date." She tsked, shaking her head. "No, no, me dear sweet Theia. This is a duty. A true public service," she declared dramatically, finally lifting her self-inking quill from where it lay abandoned beside her parchment. "I don’t necessarily want to report on that Backstabbing Buffoon while I could be whispering sweet nothings into your ear instead. But... alas! Some poor, unsuspecting soul might walk into Madam Puddifoot’s completely unaware of the treachery that took place here, and wouldn’t that just be horrifically tragic?" Then, shifting just slightly, she leaned in and wiggled her brows a bit. "Buuuuuuut, if it makes you feel better, you've got my FULL attention now."
You're welcome. Truly, this was the highest compliment.
The Gryffindor tilted her head as though she were considering her bestie's statements - buuuuuuuuuuuuut really, she was savoring them, the confirmation, the fact that Amatheia liked having her full attention. Good but also like, duh, why wouldn't she?
She let her arm settle around Theia's shoulders a little more snugly, fingers idly tracing patterns against the fabric of the blonde's sleeve. "I can be more than just dedicated to my craft, you know." Was the Ravenclaw picking up what she was putting down? They were the stereotypically smart house, after all - so, come on, Theia...time for a stroke of genius!
But then, of course, Theia had to go and ask about the writing.
"Nothing you need to concern yourself with now. I'll show you a draft later. But, for now, my quill needs a break and we need to order."

Now it was Amatheia's turn have an amusing reaction. Very big raised eyebrow with a smile. Yes, she very much could believe that since she just did it in front of everyone in this establishment. Look at all the evidence and first hand witnesses.
“A duty huh”
She responded in an amused away since there was no interrogating and she was just messing with Diamond. A public service was pushing it a little bit. Backstabbing Buffoon??? Who even comes up with stuff like that. Also who was she even talking about. This is Amatheia’s problem when all her drama knowledge came from Diamond and without her she would be the personification of ignorance is bliss.
“It was starting to sound like sweet nothings there are the end. But points off for Backstabbing Buffoon. You are more creative than that.”
Sadly this ravenclaw was not about those kind of smarts so of course she would ask about the writing instead of ponder what ‘more than just dedicated to my craft means’ also the fact she was tracing patterns was distracting and she didn't want to say anything in fear she would stop.
“Well ok is this where the whole more than just dedicated to your craft starts?”

Well... that didn't last long.
If Emma would have known that Justus only wanted to sit her in front of the window to parade her around like a trophy, she probably would have insisted on the corner booth. Of course she didn't know the intricate details of his former relationship, but from the looks of the girl through the window, it didn't seem as though she was all that innocent herself, parading through Hogsmeade street with a male.
However all that was moot as she gazed back to him to see him reaching his hand across to her and suddenly he was at a loss of words. "That nitwit" her eyes narrowed back out the window for a brief second watching the girl and gut walk off. She didn't know the girl, but jinxing someone no matter how vengeful was never cool. Eyes back on Justus, "Finite incantatem," she said, hoping that the jinx was one that could be reversed and didn't require waiting it out.

Well... that was quite the show put on, Justus thought. One could probably hear the scribble of a quill in the background of this event being recorded. Ahem. Sure, he wasn't surprised with the risk, but he imagined a face-to-face conversation where he could say what he wanted. Oh well. It wasn't like he was seeking his now ex out. He gave up trying when she was so busy all the time with that bloke "studying". And said bloke did poorly on hiding their crush. Justus looked slightly sheepish at Emma, who saw the whole thing. Given how she looked through the window and then back at him, he imagined the words she would've said to him.
Okay.. go ahead. Justus thought. She could probably get up and leave him in his mute status, call him names. And she did.... but not at him. He blinked, almost missing out the counterspell she uttered. His tongue fell back to its proper state, leaving him to cover his mouth before coughing.
"Excuse me... Thanks." It was very much appreciated. "I apologize for getting you into this." He said. "Erm... what was I saying.." Then he remembered. "Oh.. yeah. I like you Emma... and I was hoping this could be treated like a date between you and me." One thing with Justus, he didn't say much often but when he did he didn't mince his thoughts. "But I understand if you had second thoughts or any questions after what you just witnessed." So here he was, an open book ready to be asked.

Diamond’s grin was slow and positively wicked. "Oh, Theia, Theia, Theia," she purred, her fingers lazily tracing idle patterns up and down the Ravenclaw's arm now. "You positively wound me. Here I am, multitasking brilliantly, being an icon of journalistic integrity, and still managing to flirt with you and yooooooooooou want to dock me points over a perfectly accurate insult?" She tsked, shaking her head. "Now this is what the French would call le tragique."
But then she tilted her head, eyes gleaming with something far more interested as she let Theia's last words settle. And then, because she was Diamond and subtlety was not her strong suit, she took the leap. Literally and figuratively. Shifting in her seat, she closed the already very small space between them, slipping her arm fully around Theia's waist this time. No more teasing little gestures - this was a move. She could enjoy a good game of cat and mouse, but her patience to get to the finish line of this headline was waning. A pause, a smirk, and then, leaning in just enough so Theia could feel the warmth of her breath near her cheek, Diamond murmured, "What kiiiiiiiiind of more is on yooooooooour mind?"

Wicked is a good word to use. Since she had orchestrated this and all Theia had originally wanted to do was have a good time with Diamond. Now it was not as simple as that. Was it a good thing or bad thing guess we will find out. All Theia’s attention was her own arm watching the patterns going up and down and it did feel pretty good. Well ok before it was just fun and didn't know if Diamond was serious BUT NOW she was bluntly admitting to it and uh….ok well guess Theia cant be so innocently flirting back now could she??
Right???
DIAMOND!
Oh no, she was very close now. Arm around her now….It did feel nice. Her brain was malfunctioning from Diamond’s breathe but it was nice.
“Um…this and um…also want to lean against you and want do find out what kind of lip balm you are using today”
Not for science or anything but like a proper one. Just the poor blonde was not one to be blunt.
